    Default Lock mitre jig (Small)

I have been trying to make a lock mitre jig that works. The only one I have seen that does so is the Infinity jig. I got one and have copied it for my own use.

I attach a DXF so you can see what I have drawn. The jigs for the larger lock mitres will just be the same thing made bigger.

Just need to wait for the magnets now.

    EDIT:
    Update:
I have simplified the jig and made it from two parts acrylic 2mm thick. (I tried for 1mm but I couldn't find any locally.)

The original jig from Torquata would never have worked on this mitre lock bit. The physical shape of the bit body does not allow the jig to sit where it should and it kinks it out to the side at an angle.

I cut this on a laser cutter. After I had drawn it properly and discovered why the original would not work, it took less than minute to make the jig. (Plus glue set time.)

I can't open the attachment. I'm sure there are plenty of others who would be in the same boat.

Aldav, I don't know what software you have available, but the dxf file format is a drawing exchange format that was originally developed to allow CAD files to be moved between different CAD software families when the developers all guarded their propriety file formats closely. Nowdays most come with a variety of file read/write format options but DXF is still a common format for feeding into CNC preprocessors for cutting, shaping etc.

That said, I was able to get meaningful images by directly opening the file from within TurboCad V21 and by opening Sketchup and importing the DXF file into it, so I suspect your issue is a lack if suitable software rather than any issue with the file contents. It should certainly be accessible to anyone with Sketchup installed, and I would expect most CAD software (even very basic stuff) to be able to cope via either as a direct open or import.

    Hello Aldav

I have made a zipped file that contains 3 other file types, AI, SVG and EPS.

You should be able to open at least one of these after you download the ZIP

    I don't understand the question.

The left hand side of the DXF is the rear plate that holds the magnets and the right hand side is the bit that is glued on to the rear and does the actual measuring.

I attach photos that will explain it better than that.

I found that it was necessary to make two sizes of jig rather than just the one as the larger jig made it very difficult to adjust everything when using it on the smaller bits.

Only the far right jig has had the adjustment lines painted in.

Attached are DXFs of both jigs.

The small jigs will do small and medium lock mitre bits and the large jig will do the large one and also the medium one.

Some difficulties may be had using the large jig on the medium bit, as the jig sticks out of the side of, and also above the top of, the lock mitre bit.
