    Bob's link doesn't work

Take a look at the G540 page at Gecko. Lots of help there.

I have been fitting cable chain trays to the machine and needed to make the upper support to the Z axis.

Easy to do if you have a running CNC machine and you can see from the photos the woodworker comes out in the metalworker.

Rebates on the sides to keep it all square and I have pocketed the 10mm plate to lighten the material.
The bottom rebate is to fix to an existing plate and there is 40mm of overlap and four screws to hold it in place.

The plug and socket is a locking microphone jack and I will use this for the touchplate.

Thought this might be of interest to some.
    Cheers,
    Rod

    Hi Harry72,
We laugh about a CNC Toaster over here but a CNC coffee machine is good too.

    Hi Bupton,
I have THK SSR20's on X axis and IKO LWH15 on the Y axis. Z is a THK KR33 actuator with 115 mm travel

Hi Rod, I was wondering about the reasoning behind the smoothstepper and the G540. Is it for the extra I/O as mentioned in your previous post or so you can run USB Vs Parallel. I appologise if I am asking a dumb question you have already answered.

It sort of evolved the way it has rather than planned, then purchased. I looked on my shelf and plucked out the 540 and as I had a smoothstepper there as well I thought why not. The smoothstepper as it's name suggests does make the machine run better and running on a mini itx computer I thought this would help.

I skimmed over the 540 manual and saw a couple of things that were different to what I am used to so decided to go with the CNC C10 Bob as well. The C10 BOB is cheap and I know it well so that is my backup plan and it expands my inputs so added bonus.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Cool my G540 is living proof they are practically unkillable although I too have struggled with the limited I/O but the planned THC3000 upgrade should solve this problem in much the same manner. I am still wondering though if much benefit would be had from adding a smoothstepper while I'm at it.

Without sounding too melodramatic my next post will be my last for quite a while. I reckon 8 years and 3,000 posts is enough of my waffle to bore anyone.
As I said earlier in this thread it is time for some new ideas and different opinions to mine and I think the CNC forum will benefit from new blood contributing.

Mind you I have had a lot of fun and who knows after a long break I might get fired up again.

I am going to Cairns to Russell’s BBQ in June and would be thrilled to catch up with forum members on the day.

Ok down to the serious stuff. The switches arrived and I finished the electrics and electronics (except limits. Homing) over the weekend. Spindle is running through the Gecko540, laser crosshair is working, air pump is running and most important of all the machine is running. I will finish the limits and homing through the week and on my 3,000 th post next weekend will be the important video.

The 1200 square machine is progressing nicely but will leave that for Joe to post pictures. The steelwork is finished and painted and we have moved on to the gantry. The design is based on Morphy with a few improvements learnt since that build – Morphy was two years old in January which was a surprise to me and it has not had anything replaced and still is as tight as the first day it was used – touch wood.
    Cheers,
    Rod

I second that! you will be missed Rod!

I know for me, i would not have made it as far as i have with building my machine if it wasn't for all of your build threads, posts and advice. Actually come to think of it i wouldn't have built one at all!

    SO, THANK YOU ROD!!!

    Cheers

For my two cents worth I would like to thank you personally for partially inspiring me to build my own machine, as I have not even met anyone else or seen in real life another router table, so I have relied heavily on people taking the time to document their builds and 'know how' on forums to have come this far.
Your more recent posts have inspired the birth of a console as well as many other improvements, and I can't wait till the bbq after which I plan to design a new machine.
Geez you have even inspired me to document the build on this forum once it begins.
Many thanks again for taking the time to reply to my questions and best wishes with your new pursuits. I have no doubt electronics will be an exciting time for you as I have often watched in awe as I released the inbuilt smoke from many semi-conductors and smelled the acrid stench of ignorance.

    Many Cheers,

    Tim.

Thanks for all the kind words but it should be me that is thanking everyone for the fun, friendship and inspiration over the years. I would not have achieved what I have without the guidance and advice from the forum.

Well Tubot is finally finished and before it gets dusty here are the final photos. You can see better from these how the console slides out of the base and a Perspex cover doubles up as a shield when in use. Everything is done including homing/ limits, spindle control, laser crosshair and Z axis touchplate. A mini ITX computer lives in the base of the cabinet and I had to fit a cable chain in the same compartment to carry the wiring to the console. The computer is switched on through the console so there is no need to open the cabinet to operate anything.

If I make a video I will post a link here.

The Queensland BBQ isn’t far off now so if you are going it will be great to meet up with you.
    Cheers,
    Rod
