Thread: Planning my first CNC machine

Been looking at the various builds and have decided to make the plunge. Thought it would be wise to buy the rails, screws & motors first and then make the frame to suit. Here is my initial cut at a list:

X AXIS:

2 x SBR20-950 - 20 mm diameter, 950 mm long supported rail
4 x SBR20-UU - bearing blocks to suit supported rail
1 x RM 1605/1000 - 16 mm diameter, 1000 mm long, 5 lead ball screws end machined to suit support units and couplings
1 x BF20 / 1 x BK20 - support units to suit lead screw
1 x flexible coupling
1 x anti back lash nut to suit lead screw

Y AXIS:

As above except that supported rails are 650 mm long and lead screw 700 mm long

Z AXIS:

As above except that supported rails 300 mm long and lead screw 300 mm long

Gecko 540 4 axis motor controller

4 x KL23H284-35-4B - stepper motos 387 oz-in, 1/4" shaft
1 x KL-350-48 - 48V / 7.3A 115/230V power supply

Questions I have are:

1. Thoughts on the above?
2. Does anyone know if equivalent steppers / power supplies are available in Australia (prefer to support the local economy if I can)?
3. Are 16mm diameter lead screws large enough?
4. 5 lead or 10 lead for the lead screws?
