Thread: Quick Christmas present: magic wine bottle holder

As its getting close to Christmas I thought I might post a quick design I whipped up to produce a secret santa present for a wine loving friend. The restrictions on the secret santa gift were that it must be "ethical" and cost less than $10.

I made mine from a scrap off cut piece (89 x 250 x 19mm) of Masters utility grade pine left over from another project. I centered the vectors in the piece and then cut it out with the cnc. The cut out on the cnc mill took a couple of minutes using a 3.15mm square end mill. I cut a 43 degree angle at the bottom with my mitre saw (seemed the fastest way to do it). after sanding, staining and sealing it looks pretty good to my biased eyes. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of it (had to wrap it and present it), but it comes out looking like this:

The dxf file is attached, and I got the dimensions from Robb Sommerfield's channel on youtube Magic Bottle Holder Fall 2011 - YouTube . the finished piece is 2 3/4" wide, 8 1/4" long with a 1 1/2" hole centred at 6 5/8" from the base (tip of the 43-45 degree angle cut). For the imperically challenged like me that is 69.85mm wide (i used 70mm), 209.55mm long (i used 210mm), 38.1mm diameter hole (i used 38) centered at 168.275mm from the bottom.

If anybody else tweaks the design I'd be quite interested in seeing what they come up with. Also if anybody has any other quick and simple gift ideas I'd be interested in seeing those too.
