Recommended cnc controller and computer?
Hi fellas...
Its been a long time since I posted on the forum, but need some quick advice on a new cnc project. This will be a first for me in cnc.
I want to make a hot wire foam cutter to produce architectural mouldings for my house project, then make a cnc router for some internal millwork.
The foam cutter will be a 4 axis (really two 2-axis towers) with travels of around 500 and 600.
The router envelope I want is 2400 x a minimum of 500.
I am leaning towards a Gecko 540 drive and Nema 23 steppers and threaded rod for the foam cutter, obviously better motors/positioning for the router
Which software would you recommend? Mach3 or 4? LinuxCNC? Something else?
Is finding a computer/OS for Mach3 a problem, or wil it be soon?
Thanks,

Hi Greg - seems you got no answers. I recommend UCCNC and its UC100 motion controller. Will run on any computer with USB port. Did you get a system? Peter s

Mach 3 using a parallel port requires Win XP or Win 7 (32bits only)
I can sell you brand new Hardware with built in Parallel port with Win XP Pro SP3 installed provided you pay for Win 10 Pro software & a Nvidia video card. New Intel CPUs have video but drivers are only for 64bits Win 10.
(I also have old PCs P4 or Core, Core 2-Duo CPUs with Win XP.
Every month I sell 3 or 4 new PCs with 5V PCIe AXXON cards for Plasma CAM CNC machines in Australia.Reuel

And later that same year, a reply: Thanks Peter...I'll look into that. That particular project has been pushed out to next June.

Thanks Reuelt. I am going to try to avoid the windows/Mach 3 if I can for future proofing. Plus, I haven’t had a Windows computer for 18 years.
If I cannot avoid it I’ll get in touch.
