    Default Sammy-WIP

I attended the CNC GtG in July 2013 and Russell (epineh) was kind enough to give me a machine to start with, nicknamed Sammy.

This generous gesture added to an already fantastic experience at this GtG, learned a lot and met some great people.
    Thanks again Russell

Here are a couple of pictures of Sammy, still sporting Russells spindle, at the Cairns GtG.

Unfortunately it has been sitting in my shed since we came home in August, we went to the snow at Mt Buller with son and 2 granddaughters a week after came back then various other things took priority.

With Christmas out of the way I finally got my act together and made a start, first completing a 4th axis.

Then came the time to start installing a new spindle, a 12-48V DC 300W from Ebay, RPM up to 12000.

This came complete with mounting bracket which needed 4 new holes to be drilled in the Z axis carriage on Sammy.

The spindle uses ER11 collets, of which I have a full set on order.

It also came complete with a power supply, still trying to work out the Chinese labels for the input/output!

Hey Fred, great to see you getting sammy up and running, can't wait to see the end result.

Nice work on the 4th axis, should be a good fit.

    Cheers.

    Russell.

Having finally figured out the wiring connections for the DC Spindle power supply it was time to install it in the main box, which is an old SCSI box that used to hold 2 x 1Gb (oh yeah!) SCSI drives.

Also installed the power supply for the stepper motors and the E-stop

The Gecko G540 will be mounted on the front.

Time to call it a day, 40C at the moment!
