I bought a spindle kit which includes a VFD, should I expect the VFD to be supplied programmed or not?

Don’t you have your own private VFD electrician on a retainer?

Correct to assume it is not setup for your use, voltage etc. Best forum for information on VFD setup is here.
Most knowledgable person on the forum on VFD's is a guy that goes by the name of matec54.
Takes about 30 seconds give or take to release the magic smoke from a spindel because ot the wrong settings, .

Thanks for the replies, I have access to the expertise to set it up as one of our own members has been playing with them for something like twenty years as part of his job. My question was only to ask if I should seek his help or not have to bother him at all.
A supplementary issue has arisen with this spindle, it has a four pin screw connector but no connector or wiring diagram was supplied, is this normal or have I been dudded?CHRIS

Just a guess, 3 phases and an earth?
The earth should connect through to the metal casing so should show up as a zero resistance when checked by an ohm meter.
All 3 phases (1, 2, 3) should have infinite resistance to the earth, and the same few ohm resistance when measured 1-2, 1-3 and 2-3
The order in which the 3 phases are connected from the VFD doesn't matter, it will run either clockwise or anticlockwise.
If it runs the wrong way just reverse connect any two phases.

I’ll call you on Monday. Sitting on the top deck of a houseboat on the Hawkesbury atm. Drowning some bait while I check the forums. I wonder what the poor folk are doing
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Chris races out to shed and enduring the 39.5 C in shed still can't find it. Then a closer look at the packaging the spindle came in found it buried in the foam which had not been looked at closely enough. Tony, I hope you survive confinement to the houseboat ok, it sounds terrible to me.

You may find the "earth" pin is not actually connected to anything. A lot of Chinese spindles are missing the correct earth connection.
Check with a multimeter for connection between each of the 4 pins and the spindle casing. If none connect, that needs to be fixed. If more than one, there is a problem...

Yes it was just awful. As the photos below will attest
Houseboat.jpgDangar.jpgGoanna.jpgView.jpeg
First one is our magnificent vessel. Anchored in a small bay for the first night. (because we couldn't find an unoccupied public mooring)
Second is approaching Dangar Island. A community of around 300 only accessible by boat.
Third is a small goanna that just wandered in front of us as we were walking on a bush track and the last one is some of the disgusting scenery we had to look at all day. Those were the droids I was looking for.
