    Default Spindle motor

With the improvement in the Au$, I was thinking of replacing my 650wt Ozito, with a spindle. Can anyone comment on this please, and has anyone had any experience with the supplier.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Can't comment on that particular vendor but this one has a good reputation.
Several members here have purchased spindles and/or ballscrews from him, myself included.

    Hi Chris
I have not heard any bad feedback from that seller. I have a feeling somebody on here got one from him - maybe Noel??
Looking at his feedback he has sold a lot of the spindles with only small amount of negatives.
    Cheers,

I have had a good experience from this seller.

eBay Australia Store ? love-happyshopping: Search results for spindle.

I am so happy with my air cooled spindle that I would not get water cooled again.

Thanks all. I will give him a go as his feeback seems to be good, and Grg was quite happy.

Greg, I'm still a little confused re the air cooled spindles. Is the air supplied via a compressor, or by built-in fans in the spindle?

Air cooling is supplied by a fan.

I believe that others have spindles with an electric fan that does not start below 100hz or 6000rpm

The one I have is 1.5kw and has a fixed fan on the spindle shaft.

At first I was dismayed when I saw this to be the case because I had heard that spindle driven fans were noisy at high speed. European ones like HSD and Fimec are noisy.

However this spindle is quieter than my previous water cooled one. I am happy.

If it had a ER16 nose like my old one, or even ER20, I would be even happier. Can't have everything you want.

    Greg

EDIT: This one has ceramic bearings. Good for high speed longevity (I think) , bad for my auto tool zero.

One thing I will add Chris and this is only my opinion.

I would forgo the Chinese VFD and get a Hitachi from the US. Lots of reports I am reading of difficulties and poor quality with the Chinese ones.

That may not be an opinion that is widely held but it is mine.

    Greg

EDIT: If buying a VFD alone from that Chinese seller then the price is much the same as a Hitachi from the US. But if buying combined deal it is cheaper from China.

    Hi Cgris,
A while ago I asked this seller if he sold 0.8kw spindles in air cooled as he didn't have any listed. He said he no longer did and only sent water cooled for that size. I am not sure if he was trying to sell me a water cooled for stock reasons. He still has air cooled 0.8kw in his table.
I see you are looking at 0.8kw so if you do ask him can you let us know if he is selling the air cooled again in this size.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Been thinking about this some more, and will go with an air cooled spindle. Yet to decide from whom.

I currently have a Xylotex 4 axis board (3 used), and a CNC-4PC C10 BOB to handle the limit switches. My understanding of what I've read, is that I can control the spindle manually from the VFD front panel. However, if I want to control it from Mach3, then I am going to need something else. I am not adverse to running it directly from the VFD (already doing that with the Ozito ), but interfacing with Mach3 would be nice if I can keep the cost down.

Any advice would be greatfully received.

I emailed him, and he confirmed that it's either 800wt water cooled, or 1.5kw air cooled. So it looks like I'll be going with the water cooled 800.

That is a shame. Probably has stock he wants to move.

I wonder if pressed he might come around. Maybe say "sorry I will have to go to another supplier"

I wanted a 80mm dia body 1.5kw which he did not have up on ebay. He got it for me though. It was on the list.

I keep saying He, but I think it is a She.

    Chirs,
I have been running an 800 watt air cooled on Morphy. I got it from Linearmotionbearings who seem to be a little dearer than your buyer. Might be worth asking him also as the cost is recovered by the convenience and expense of setting up water cooling. I can highly recommend air cooled - mine never gets warm even on cutting ally.
    Cheers,

I've emailed Linearmotionbearings to see if they can supply one, and will let you know the result.
