hello Bob
thank you for your reply
Today I find a PD0143 04 (factory setting) no change
The PD0144 is 1440 (default setting) I change to 3000
I try to run the engine when it goes ...... has 24,000
you think it is correct or you have to change all that as you said in your last post
again thank you very much

Just a clarification...
PD144 sets the rated revolution ie the displayed speed so with a setting of 3000 (speed at 50hz output from VFD) this means at the full speed (400hz output) the display will read 24000.
This does not necessarily mean that the motor is running at that speed.
PD143 is the number of poles (note that a 2.2kw version like mine is 2 pole) and this will affect the speed of the motor with this set to 4 the motor will be 1/2 as fast.
If you have access to a tachometer or strobe light that would be the best way to verify that the output speed is infact correct.
Cheers

Hello friends
if I understand you have to change the PD0143 to 04 poles (factory setting)
has 02 poles
3000 and put in place of 1440 (factory setting)

The manual for the Huanyang has the default PD143 poles set to 4 and in the case of my 2.2kw chinese spindle the correct setting was 2.
I don;t believe that you can damage the motor if these are set incorrectly BUT I MIGHT BE WRONG!!!
Do you have any way of measuring the speed directly of the motor when the VFD is out putting 400hz? if the actual speed is 24000rpm then the poles are set correctly.

Hedi
Does your motor sound like this:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdqXeS4OG9w]3.3KW (4HP) Chinese CNC Spindle + Huanyang 3.3KW VFD Test - YouTube[/ame]
at the displayed 24000rpm? if yes then my guess is the poles are set correctly and you are spinning at the displayed speed. If the pitch is much lower then my guess is that the poles are set to 4 and need to be 2

Speed Settings
Gentlemen,
Call it old age or stupidity but for the life of me I can't figure out how to change the speed on my VFD. I did have it running at 13500rpm but I want to run it a bit slower to do some aluminium milling. I was clever enough (OK it just worked) to get the USB Mach3 RS485 comm plugin to work but am getting too much EMI through my smoothstepper for that to be viable and had to remove it. I've reset all the setting as per Bob's excellent doco and now have the spindle screaming at 24000rpm. Could someone please point me in the right direction.
Cheers all

Hi Ailmik
The speed control should now be done through Mach3
So, from the MDI input page (Alt2) where you can issue instructions such as G0 y50 x400, you should type in S15000 and the speed should change to that.
This should be incorporated into your Gcode files and it will then happen automatically.Bob Willson

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I had to remove the comm plugin due to interference so I'm back to square one. I need to know how to do it manually until I can afford to buy the new smoothstepper with the ethernet connection. Apparently the new ones handle the EMI a lot better. Do you recall which PD handles it? I thought it was PD144 but all that does for me is change the reading on the front panel.
Cheers

Thanks Bob. I need to go into town tomorrow morning so I'l pick up some bits and pieces. Are you able to tell me what PD200 and 209 do. All the manuals I've seen only go up to the 180's.
Cheers

Kim you need to change PD003 as this is the one that sets the speed.
PD002 also needs to be set to 0 as it would have been 2 if using the plugin.
Proper shielding and ferrite supressors can fix your noise issues BTW and its wise to fix that no matter which way you end up controlling the VFD as it can cause issues elsewhere such as sensors.

Thanks a lot Mark, I'll give those settings a shot as well. I needed to set PD 1 & 2 both back to 0 to get control back which I did. I believe I have a real noise issue as I have toroidal ferrites on all leads both in and out (just a process of elimination +1, -1 until I could get it stable). I've even gone as far as adding a 3KW UPS and running everything through that and still having issues. I think the problem will remain until I'm rich and famous and can afford to replace the Hy inverter .
Cheers
