I'll defer to BobL, but suspect that he will strongly advise not to do that.

    Hi Reuel,

    Thank you for your feedback.

We believe and 800W spindle is more than capable of doing all the work presented to a machine of this size and specification. We have yet to announce the spindle specs but there are 800W spindles with ER20 collets on them (13mm).

We have based our selection on our success and experience using and selling branded spindles of this size such as the 800W Kress spindle and 700W HF Tekno Motor.

As soon as we start marketing happy to provide some videos to show it in action. Jumping up to a 2.2KW would be great but there is a lot of added cost involved. We have built the Axiom platform using an industrial 2.2kw Water cooled spindle which is this machines bigger brother. This has a much heavier duty frame which can withstand the loads presented when pushing a 2.2kw spindle to its limits.”

This is from their guy in Australia

If it ends up there, make sure it's not on the same circuit at the welding stuff. CNC controllers like nice, clean power supplies and welders going on and off don't always play nicely with that.

We had trouble with our CNC at work with with the welder a few factories down on the same block before we got solar on the roof which I guess smoothed out the spikes.

    Why would you say that?

Carbetec only list the Pro versions on their website. With 3hp spindles.

I have been to the importers warehouse and I still believe he is bringing in the Pro series.

That discussion may have been when the import deal was still being worked on.

Fast forwarding a few months and...

We went for the Axiom AR8 Elite Series CNC router. It came in just last week. Here's why:

    1. Reviews - majority of the reviews I read were positive about the Axiom machines. I spoke to another teacher who got an Axiom machine and he was singing its praises.

    2. Local support from the supplier in Melbourne - just a phone call or text away

    3. Size - We kept coming back to the size limitations and where we could put the machine. A 1200x1200 machine would have been great but taken up too much room in the workshop. Also, if we need to machine anything bigger than the 1220 x 610mm bed, we can outsource it. The majority of our work should be fine for the AR8 size.

    4. Cost - cost (in my limited experience) was reasonable for the machine we got. Compared to others we looked at (Shark, Woodman, Multicam) the Axiom was about the middle ground.

    5. Quality - It's a tank of a machine. Everything is finished nicely

I haven't actually cut anything yet but run a few test files to get the hang of it. I need to set up a dust extraction arm with some sort of pivot system for the hose. I'll start a new thread once I get some experience with it.
