Default Kreg Precision Mitre Gauge

Kreg Precision Miter Gauge System

Picked on of these up for a table saw I recently bought second hand that didn't come with a gauge. It was offered as an alternative by the Jet dealer in Townsville as the Incra version wasn't available any time soon and was going to cost $100 or so more.

Features

- Adjustable mitre slot width - has 6 little screw in nylon threads that along the rail that sits in the mitre slot, easy enough to install and adjust to get a firm grip and can be easily re-adjusted for any other machine you're using it on, unlike the old nail punch and file trick. The end has a flat head bolt that locks it into the slot to ensure it doesn't tip up.

- Adjustable mitre gauge that has stops at the usual angles and includes a locking pin to keep them there. For other angles it has a smaller scale to give 1/10th of a degree accuracy. All the angles seemed spot on out of the box on the version I bought, there is nylon adjusting screws where the fence attaches to make sure though.

- fence is 600mm and includes 6 little nylon buttons that lock into the bottom so that it slides smoothly on the table and gives that little sawdust gap under the fence. It also has a stop that can be done against the handle to ensure that you don't accidentally slide it too far over and cut off the end of your fence. Good for piece of mind. It has mitre slots in the face and on top for other attachments and a slot for the included imperial tape measure.

- The included Swing stop has been upgraded from the picture on the box and it took a bit of head scratching before I realised that there was supplementary instructions for it buried in the carton. The one in the manual was for the old version. The new one apparently swings more smoothly as it rides on nylon around the bolt and you can snap the bottom off of it so that it sits down straight when using a sacrificial fence. (can't be reattached though)

My only gripe with it is that a metric tape wasn't included with it, only an imperial one. I know Kreg do metric ones as I bought a right and left hand tape to fit on the table saw at the same shop. If you're anal enough to need 1/10th of a degree then you're probably not working in inches.

I have a fair bit of Incra gear and am very happy with it, however the Kreg mitre gauge is just as good in my opinion, has a solid build, the manual is far easier to understand than any Incra one and the price of $199 in Aust compared to the RRP of $159.99 in the US seemed quite reasonable given freight and the fact that it was in stock.
