I have a chess table that I think is from the Arts and Craft period because the base cover (over read cedar) and the column cover are some form of paper mache.
The base has split and broken away - I was planning to clean, glue and clamp. Later add some support but not sure how yet.

I would like to safely clean with out damaging the paper mache or lose the paint.
If the paint isn't there then add some back.
I would like to seal the borer (?) holes in the paper mache (or is it something else.
I would like to repair the paper mache and paint to match.
I will look for mother of pearl pieces to replace the missing.
After some touching up of a couple of chips I would like to redo the glazed (?) cover coating.

Any suggestions on where to get information to learn about doing this?

Cheers,
Nick

It may not be of great value but I would like to get chess happening in this house again
