Thread: gripper catch ?

Welcome to the Brisbane fraternity (and sorority for female members),

if you post a photo of the whole sideboard you will get more responses. it looks like a simple spring catch - steel spring "female" with brass "male" components so should be easy as rwbuild suggests. if not, as I said, more information, more photos, more help!

Oops!! had a closer look at photo, not a standard roller catch. You have the female part in the photo, the male part has a small pea sized head on a slender stem. It is a very early version that preceded the currant roller catch. There is a similar one sold by Bunnings and Mitre10 but it has a nylon body that the pin goes into. You may be able to source one from one of the specialist architectural hardware suppliers or antique dealers or maybe someone on the forum can help you with a spare one.

The other option is simply buy one of the current roller catches and just use the male latch pin if your not fussed about it being the real matching McCoy

Thanks guys, it is this same female part on the other door that is broken. I'll replace the female part on both sides with the ones from OldGrain's link. Just gotta putty up the old holes.

Xanthorrhoeas, for posterity's sake here's a washed out photo of the cabinet. Having had a closer look at the thing for the first time in who knows how long, I'm guessing it's more likely 70's.

I think more like very late 50's or 60's

Try THE BRASS SHOP at Tempe in Sydney as they have a wide range of reproduction catches and antique type parts for cabinets etc
