    Default Removing Stain for timber

    Hi

Sorry if I have posted this in the incorrect area but not to sure where to go.
My query is I have some timber stained legs at home that are quite old. I do not really envy the task of trying to sand them by hand.
My brother told me he used to know a guy who used baking soda (he thinks) mix with something else to make a solution. He then put the solution in a bucket let the stained timber soak over night and the next day just up ended it and put the other have in to soak over night and it took the stain out.

Does anyone know of this or know of another way to remove stain.

    Thanks

Can't say I've heard that one before, try it and see.

Much will depend on the type of stain used on the legs. e.g Sprint Based, Water Based, Chemical reaction etc.

    All the best with it.

    Cheers

This could be interesting. I've never heard of removing stain chemically. I'm pulling up a chair.

I found a couple of things:

    Manns Wood Stain Remover

    RustOleum.com

Chances are that the chemical used was not baking soda but either oxalic acid or sodium hydroxide. The first is good at rejuvenating faded timber, the second is a paint stripper.
