I never would have thought of steaming MDF. That's why you are the artist and I'm just the observer!

I like your choice for the speedo. Some how I don't think those older machines would hit 130MPH even 80 is really pushing it for that time period.

    Thanks mate.
I've got to say I have a real love hate relationship with MDF.
I struggle to call it wood of any sort, more a glorified cardboard really!
But man you can push it
    It's a very versatile material.

With the speedo I had a look at a few, some Straight Four's of the period did have upper limits of 130 mph.
But a lot had the 80 mph face on them.
Like you I think it's more a good reflection of the machine I'm building.

I got an early start today and have gotten the face for the speedo finished.

It's pretty tempting to print it out and make the speedo.
But for the minute I'll get back on the rear mudguard.

    Cheers mate.

    Hi Johnie,
    A closer look and the 130 is KPH not MPH. 130 KPH = 80 MPH +or - a bit.
    Cheers

Well there's no hope for this build
I'm the guy building it and I can't even read a gauge face
I was reading it as 130mph!

Still on the bright side I don't think the speedo on my Indian will ever rise much above zero.
    Good spot mate

    Cheers

I can't make out the 130 gauge either Trev, so that's two of us sitting in the dark.

Does seem to make sense though. Nothing in its stock form from that era went 130 mph except run away trains! Not to mention those crumby rubber coated canvas tires would never hold together at that speed.

    Hey Andrew,
You got me mate I should have none I'd never get away with it!
It's not just the numbers on the speedo.
If you add up the number of nuts and bolts I've used in making the engine.
Then divided the total by the number of days in the year it equals the latitude and longitude of the lost city of Atlantis

No seriously I do use numbers that mean something to me.
The mileage total of 05691 is my sons birthday.
The trip metre with 166 is a little more obscure.
It's the registered stud book number of Hambletonian.
His the founding stallion that all modern Standardbred horse's trace to. (I did say it was a little obscure)
You can probably guess from that I'm somewhat of a Harness Racing boy

    Cheers mate

I'd be more worried about that BROWN Speedometer that really isn't brown.... Maybe it was the same color blindness that drove them out of business due to not seeing enough GREEN!

As always Trev, your artistic abilities using very simple graphic software is amazing!

I've got the MDF part of the mudguard finished.
Just sitting it in place on the bike gives me a good look at the overall appearance of the what finished build will be.
With a little luck it may just about end up looking like an Indian Straight Four.
Pretty happy with it to this point!

If the rain holds off I'll get a couple of layers of fibreglass on the rear mudguard this afternoon.
If it does happen to start raining I'll work on the speedo.
Either way I'll be more than happy

A little late replying to this post (been in hospital for a few days)

I have to agree about MDF not my favourite material, all that dust but as you say can be very versatile I built a motorbike out of the stuff a while ago.

The build is coming along just nicely it is all these bits that you are making now that can take the longest
