I got started on the body for the speedo.
IMG_2183.jpg
I'll work on the face tomorrow cutting the holes for the
mileage and trip meters.
I've printed out quite a few faces for the speedo I'm expecting
to make some mistakes, the holes are pretty small.
IMG_2192.jpg
I'll need to make a bracket to hold the speedo to the backbone.
But sitting on the tank it looks like it should work well.

A trip down to the recyclers caused a slight change in direction for a moment.
I was looking for some material to make the clamp for the speedo.
When I spotted an old Dolphin torch.
After a little more hunting around I found a flange from a drain pipe that looked
about the same diameter as the front of the torch.
It didn't take long to modify the flange and strip the parts from the torch.
I'm still looking for some corrugated Perspex for the lens.

The bulb is from the tail light of an old Holden.
IMG_2203.jpg IMG_2206.jpg
Once the lens is changed out it should look pretty good.
Mind you after finding the parts for the headlight I forgot all about the speedo bracket.
So I'll be back at the recyclers tomorrow.

Looking great Trev.
How big are those holes in the speedo? Would a hole punch for notebook paper work?
Dolphin torch... see this is why I don't say much. I read that and went looking for parts from a fire hatchet only to discover you really used a flash light!....He who blesses his neighbor in a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted as cursing!

Thanks mate.
I'm with you I reckon a small hole punch should take the centres out of the gauge.
I've just got to find the right size, or make one from a piece of copper pipe.
There really are some funny differences between Oz and the States.
I know what a fire hatchet is only we'd say axe.
But how does Dolphin associate to it?
Cheers mate

Its what you called the flashlight.
I copied and pasted your words into Google and up came a flashlight. I guess Dolphin is a brand name over there like super glue. Lots of other makers of CA glues, but they all get called super glue.He who blesses his neighbor in a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted as cursing!

I don't say much on this thread, because every time I look at what has been completed it leaves me speechless!!!! Awesome comes to my mind but doesn't seem like enough.

Its looking great, but I'm thinking ahead to all the work coming up disassembling it to paint and then rebuilding it....
I'm beginning to think it won't be finished until 2015.... but that's OK cause I'm enjoying the ride.He who blesses his neighbor in a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted as cursing!

Trevor,
I've started assembing the front wheel. I've finally given up too on finding a more suitable rim (old-fashioned profile)....
Anyway it should be back together this week. Would you like me to post it up r do can you think of a cheaper way to get it to Mildura from Bendigo?
Please remeasure the four rear sprocket hole spacings and the spigot diameter - I can;t find the bit of paper we wrote the measurements on.... I have a suitable sprocket to drill and bore accordingly. That can be finished at the same time then.Cheers,
Joe

I think your on the mark Johnnie.
I'm hoping to have the bike built by early October ready to be striped down for paint.
Which works out pretty well it's way to cold down here to be spray painting without the right setup.
Under a carport with ice hanging from the roof just doesn't cut it!
I think the first week or so of the new year will see it all buttoned up.
But I've put so much into it time doesn't matter
Cheers mate.

P.S I bet the weather is beautiful in your neck of the woods at the moment!

ROAD TRIP
Your brilliant mate.
Let me know when the front wheel is ready and I'll scoot down for a cup of coffee.
With the rear wheel I've still have to face cutting the gearbox down to adjust the alignment of the chain.
The spacing of the drive sprocket is going to be critical to the amount I need to modify the gearbox.
Best we have a look at it on the ground!
I can't wait to see the front wheel and get started on the brake for it.
Thanks so much for doing this for me
Let me know when and I'll be there.
Cheers mate your ACE or in this case Indian Ace at least!!!!!!!

I finished the bracket that holds the speedo to the backbone.
The main feature is the scalloped section on the top part.
IMG_2214.jpg
It's a small but important feature that stands out to people who know
early motorcycles.
To form the three ridges I used plasticine and bodyfiller.
The great thing about bodyfiller is that before it cures it is quite pliable.
IMG_2211.jpg
I pushed a piece of small rod into some plasticine that was laying flat.
Then covered it with bodyfiller.
At the point where the filler just started to cure I shaped the mould around
the clamp.
Then when it had dried I filled in the gaps.
It's a good trick for making odd shapes!
Cheers
