I have just read this post from start to now and am in total awe of what you are achieving.

If when you finish you never make another thing (which i doubt very much) this will go down in folklore as probably the best model ever made.

    WOW Thanks Guy's,
It's nice knowing people are enjoying the build.

But sometimes you can be given a compliment that's so high you just really don't know what to say.
And this would be one of them!

Ray "THANKS" it means a lot to think that my work can be held in such high regard!
Although it leaves me with no pressure at all for the rest of the build.

When people enjoy your work it makes it all worth while!
    So Thanks again.

Had a great day working on the crankcase, minus a couple of fiddley little bits I got it done.
Also managed to get some primer onto it.

    IMG_1280.jpg

After a few more coats of primer and a hole heap of sanding I'll give it a top coat, and I'll be
able to put the barrel's onto it.
I'm really looking forward to that, I just hope everything fits.
But it should start to look like I'm getting somewhere.

    IMG_1281.jpg IMG_1285.jpg

The top for the crankcase has been great fun to make it's not a shape I'm used to building.
All my other bikes have been single's or twin's with round crankcase.
This Indian Straight Four case has been quite different for me.

    IMG_1289.jpg IMG_1283.jpg

I've still got a lot to do on the engine but when it's done the bike will be more than half finished.
It's funny how that works out the engine is only about 1/3 of bike, but it takes almost 2/3 of the time to build it.

    IMG_1286.jpg IMG_1288.jpg

I'll get back to it, I've probably got time to sand it and give it another coat of primer.
Sometimes I really like daylight savings.

    Cheers.

I couldn't help myself the top of the crankcase was just sitting there and I still had daylight.
So I convinced myself that I really needed to make sure that the barrel's would fit.

    IMG_1293.jpg

Nothing is really held in place it's all just sitting there.

    IMG_1294.jpg IMG_1300.jpg

But the fit is pretty good, I could maybe drop the exhaust pipe down a half inch or so.

    IMG_1298.jpg IMG_1301.jpg

I'm hoping to get the top coat on the case tomorrow.
Then I'll be able to bolt the barrel's on.

    IMG_1302.jpg IMG_1303.jpg

Now it's looking more like an engine!

    Cheers.

    That sounds pretty good mate.
It would be good to get away for a couple of days.

My dear old Dad lives with me, his 90 and I don't get much of a chance for time away.
But if I can arrange some care for him over the Australia Day Weekend I'll try to get there.

It might not look like I've got much done, but the crankcase has been given a top coat of alloy cast.
I've also taken the exhaust a couple of shades darker to lift the contrast.

    IMG_1310.jpg

All of the barrel's and the intake manifold have been bolted down.

    IMG_1309.jpg IMG_1304.jpg

While bolting everything down I added the gaskets.

    IMG_1306.jpg IMG_1312.jpg

I'll keep adding detail as it goes along, but at the moment I'll put some time into the sump.

    Cheers.

I got a pretty good go at the sump today and got quite a bit done.
As you know it started looking like this.

    IMG_1209.jpg

After shaping the flywheel housing and blocking out the sump pan it's starting
    to take on more form.

    IMG_1320.jpg

It's a kool shape if you look at it one way it's a train and the other a truck.
It's a bit of a childish observation I know, but that's probably a big part of the
way I see simpler shapes in complex forms.
And that helps me to build them.

    IMG_1323.jpg

Trying to be more grown up!
To build the pan I first made a jig and glued 162mm lengths of MDF in it to form the shape.

    IMG_1322.jpg

I used this method for strength, I could have steamed some 3mm MDF.
But the radius of the turn gets quite tight and I thought this way would be better.

I'll spent tomorrow shaping the pan.

    Cheers.

I got most of the sump shaped today except for the area at the front.
It needs to roll in then turn out quite sharply, I'll sleep on it and have a go tomorrow.

But there's enough done to have a look at the overall layout of the engine, and check
the comparative scale of things so far.

    IMG_1326.jpg

The depth of the sump looks pretty good, I'm still thinking at some point I might lower the exhaust
    a half inch or so.
But than can wait until later, I'll have a good look at it when I make the frame.

    IMG_1328.jpg IMG_1330.jpg

Everything seems to be about right to this point.
I'm hoping to have the sump finished in the next few days,
Then I can get started on the detailing of the left hand side of the engine.

    IMG_1331.jpg IMG_1332.jpg

I'm looking forward to making the magneto.
I found out the other day that the firing order for the bike is 1324.
I'd better keep it in mind London to a brick if it's wrong someone will notice.

    Cheers.
