    I had a bit of a sad moment this morning when I realized after today all of the major
    parts for the engine would be finished.
    I've really enjoyed building this engine, a straight four is something I've wonted to
    do for quite some time.
    To this point I've put in just over 1000 hours on the engine.
    And every minutes been fun.

    Today I made the clutch arm, the gear selector and the cap.

    There's still a lot of final detailing to be done, but the overall layout is finished.

    There's almost two weeks until the Australia Day Weekend.
    So I'll put as much time in as I can, finishing up bits and piece and repainting some parts.
    Just trying to get it as finished as I can for Dave's Big Weekend in Jerilderie.
    Which I'm really looking forward to.

    I, for one, will be sorry to see this build end. I think that this thread would the most enjoyable one, of my 8 years on the forum. Well done Trevor, and I will keep a look out for your next build.

    Sorry Chris I hope you don't mind but you'll have to put up with me for a while yet.
    The engine is almost finished, but I'm not stopping until it looks like this.

    The engine takes up most of the time in a build like this.
    Once it's finished I'll get started on the frame.
    And just keep building until the hole bikes done.

    I started going back over the engine today.
    The first thing was to drop the sump away.

    I reshaped a few sections that I wasn't happy with
    and gave it another coat of paint.

    One of the advantages in building the engine in parts is being able to dismantle it.
    It allows for repair or changing of the parts themselves if needed.
    I also got a few pieces painted like the kick-starter and the breather.

    I spent the last two days painting and detailing some of the parts.
    It's been hot to say the least, the paint almost dries as it leaves the can.
    Still the countdowns on to the Australia Day Weekend and Jerilderie.
    So no time to waist.

    I've given the Gear selector, clutch lever and a few other parts of coat of chrome.
    On the Magneto I've added the locks to the cap and screws to the cover.

    Everything seems to be going quite well, I should get the belt back on the
    magneto tomorrow.

    I also gave the heat shield on the exhaust another coat of paint.

    Anyway I'll get back to it, the cooler evenings are better for painting
    at the moment.

    It has always looked good, but it's amazing how the detailing you're doing now really brings it 'to life'...

    Trevor, if you're planning to put the motor into a frame, isn't that nice display case that you currently have it mounted on going to be redundant? It looks far too good to be put aside once the motor is mounted in the frame. Or are you planning a second engine build?

    Thanks Andrew, it is quite amazing how a few nuts and bolts can make a difference!
    It really brings it all together.

    I built the stand as just that Steve.
    It will be around for awhile yet, after I get back from Jerilderie I'll modify it to take the frame.
    If need be I'll make the base of it larger to support everything.
    But it will all be built on the stand right up to the wheels going on.
    I think that's why I put a fair bit of work into it, because it was always going to be seen for a long time.
    It's probably a little over the top but I think it looks great and adds to the build.

    Unfortunately after that it will gather dust in a corner somewhere!
    I wont be able to use it on my next build, as even at 2/3 scale the engine will be to big for the stand.

    I know it's a long way down the track but here's a sneak peak.

    You may even know the car the engine goes with it's pretty famous, in the US as specially.
    It should be a great build and probably drive me nuts for a year or so.
    But at the moment it's all Indian Straight Four.

    Wow, that one looks like quite a challenge. Should keep you out of trouble for a while.
    I can't even begin to imagine what make it is. Don't tell us yet, though - leave us guessing until you start the build. (Unless someone recognises it in the meantime.)
    My first thought was a Model T, but it's not - it's even earlier. Love the exhaust pipes.
    And the copper water-jackets for the cylinders. Must be one of the earliest water-cooled engines.

    I'll keep the car under my hat Steve but I bet there's a car buff out there that will nail it straight away.
    I just love the idea of building that engine.
    It would be great to have the car in 2/3 scale, which should be pretty impressive on it's own.
    But then to able to say oh by the way and lift the bonnet, how kool!

    The engine itself doesn't look to hard, there's just a hole lot of fairly basic shapes that make it up.
    But the detail that each part needs to look right is something else!
    I'll be luck if bonkers is the only side effect!

    I'm really looking forward to having a go at it.
    But at the moment I'm loving every minute of building the Indian.

    I already did a quick Google earlier to see if I could find a matching motor. No go.
    It'll be very interesting to see if anyone recognises it.

    I spent today doing more of the fiddley stuff.
    Recoating some parts and adding little bits of detail here and there.

    Most of the time went into getting the pulley belt in the right position.
    Like I say MDF and Pulley Belts "Not Good".

    I've been looking pretty long and hard at the Gear Cover.
    I like the chrome finish but with the Kick-starter being black I'm a bit inclined to go with a black Gear Cover.

    A lot of the original Straight Fours had black covers, it gives it a really strong look in a red frame.
    I think I'll try it, if I don't like it I'll just repaint it.

    The other thing I did was to shorten the terminal mount on top of the Generator.

    Looking good. It's hard to offer any words on excellence.

    I'm not gonna try and read through it all. I'm guessing you've done a few of these. What do you do with it when done. Sell or keep.

    Next yr for my get together I hope to be bigger and better. Am thinking of getting the town hall to have a display if you have anything you'd like to put on display.

    Hey Dave the countdowns on!
    I'm really looking forward to next weekend, best I keep working on the engine.
    I was thinking of changing the front cover on it from chrome to black.
    My son just had a look and suggested I make another cover, so I can just interchange them.
    Smart kid my son!

    The Town Hall idea sounds great, I was thinking that with the engine of the Indian coming this year.
    It would nice to have the complete bike there next year.
    That being the case why not more!

    With the selling or keeping, I don't sell my work but I have on occasion given it away!

    Anyway mate like I said really looking forward to the weekend, it will be nice to get away for a couple of days.
