I was just thinking about your hot rod build this morning Bruce and toying with the idea of a 32 Ford hot rod build myself...

The wheels would be no way be as good as yours and I'd chasing through a few threads here & on LJ's to work out sizes, dimensions and scales along with the "how to" for an engine but it just tickled my fancy to do some thing like yours or Bret's or a few other skilled toymakers/modelers.

I blow this picture up to the size of the back tire I'm using and now have a feel for the cars size.

Just use the sniping tool in windows to copy the picture off the screen, then print.
Hope this is help full.

Blimey you don't hang about with your builds looking great and why not have two engines they do for tractor pulling competitions.

I was wondering how you did them, now I know. I honestly thought you had a CNC machine to do them on as they all look so perfect.
What timber do you use for the tire and rim.

These were a proof of concept so just made with poplar, if I would have known at the time they were going to turn out ok I would have use maple like the store bought ones.
Here's some pictures of the jig I use to make wheels.
Here's my blog on the jigs.
The hardest part is making a good indexer, that's what the saw blade is shown being used for.
A smaller indexer would work much better but at the time this was what I came up with.

This jig can do both straight and angled treads by changing the angle of the cut, once you find an angle you like drill some dowel holes in the base and you'll always be able to go directly to that angle.
Since I made this jig I made some smaller index plates to make my life easier.

Sorry guys I had already posted these tire pictures, some times it's hard to remember what I have posted to where.

I was asked how cold it was getting in my neck of the woods well there's an inch a snow on the ground. Can you say BRRRRR!!!!!

No snow here but the wind has taken the chill factor to below Zero centigrade hope the wind stops tomorrow so I can cut some logs up(Not for heating but for turning).

Here in Alabama if it snows the world come to a stop, so it snowed and two days later we're just getting the internet and phones back up and running. LOL
