Hi Kevin,
The Lion was easy. I dismantled the locomotive from tender. The smokestack is also removable. The loco, tender and track all fit in the back of my ute. The D4 was more difficult. One of our Woodwork Club member's son is a carpenter and he has a van. He removed some of his gear and my loco fitted in well. It was protected by cushions on the side. Four of us lifted it in and out - more awkward than heavy - probably weighs about 25kg.
The response from the public was really good - lots of nice comments. There were a few ex loco drivers who visited and they remembered the D4 well. One gent reminised about counting the drops of oil at the lubricator. These are moments that you really like as it made me feel I am doing something worthwhile in building the loco besides just totally enjoying building it.
It was a fabulous Exhibition. We have some tremendously talented Woodturners and Woodworkers in our club who exhibited their wares.
Regards
Keith

Derek
Yes - I have one - I'm a bit disappointed with it. I rushed the photo. My locos were in the foyer, the rest of the exhibition was in the main hall.

Makes it worth while when your hours of toil can go on display to the public.
Counting drops of oil. Air compressor three drops per a minute, cylinders, four per a minute. Will vary by size of drop and the grade of steam cylinder oil being used. (As a reference, motor vehicle might be 30-50w, steam cylinder 600w.)

Keith, I was in the city yesterday and as I alighted from the intercity train I heard the beautiful sound of a steam train.
With a spare 10mins I rushed to investigate and found this beauty on platform 1...she was doing a Christmas run for kids with disabilities.....got to love that!!
What an absolute treat; even got a short video of her leaving the station........Cheers, Peter
PS - Sorry about the iPhone picture quality, BUT...

Dallas,
Thanks for that. I didn't know you took any photos of my locos. The photos are much better than mine.

Hi All,
Been a busy week. Done a bit more on the interior of the cabin. I reckon that I come in and check photos on the computer every half an hour to ensure I'm heading in the right direction. Tempting to take the computer out in the shed with me.
Made up valve and handwheel assembly. Happy how the handwheel has come up. (the handwheel is the steering wheel off a diecast 1932 "A Model" Ford - Gotta love Fords - come in so handy and look grand )
The firebox has been made out of MDF and pine. The closing mechanism is made out of aluminium and the rivets are nail heads.
This is a really, really slow part of the build. Lots of work without seeing much difference to the loco, but trying to get all the components of the cabin (from the original prototype) into my locomotive.
Regards
Keith
