Default Another Aussie Toymaker / Designer just joined in

G'day, ( or evening, as the case may be ). Have been a toymaker / designer for yonks, here on the Southern Yorke Peninsula Region of South Australia. Began back in the 1980's ( 'bout '83, I think from memory ). had my successes over the years, and my share of,'stuff-ups,' too,- something to do with, ' Murphy's law !! ' For some reason,- one never ever seems have things go wrong when you are on your own. Only when you have a mate or two looking on,- or a customer you are making something for !!
I am a learner round this interesting site, and I mean interesting too, as it is great to read, & view what other toymakers do, and make,- whether they are just starting out, or been into wooden toys for years.
I am going to attempt to put a couple of pics of my wooden toys next,- ( don't seem to have much luck with putting pics onto sites, therefore please don't hold your breathe !! ) One pic is of an interesting Model-toy I have designed in recent years,- and sold heaps of, the other,- it best described as a, ' Big Kid's Toy,' for the guy who has everything !!

G'Day and welcome to the forum Roger,
That's one top truck which I'm assuming from the statement that you're designer, that you did the plans yourself.
It's come up very good and well proportioned.
I'm in the throughs of doing a Norm Marshall "Cab Over Truck" or as the yanks say "Tractor".
So many parts and everything in the plans in in imperial but I'm old enough to work that side out though I'm having to rip most of the timber to size.
Anyways, thanks for showing your excellent woodworking, toymaking ability.
    Cheers, Crowie

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum.
Very impressive the beer truck looks about the right proportions for a yard of ale.
    Regards

Default Yep,- All genuine original designs

Do all the artwork myself,- the old way by hand. Have tried the modern CAD system but don't like it, or maybe it don't like me !!!! Anyway I find its more fun designing stuff the old fashion way !
***Little secret here,- for anyone interested,- I work off the actual Truck Sales Brochures,- and have a preset scale I work to for realistic appearance.
Got other Model-toys too,- have made & sold quite a few Modern Farm Tractors, with a working FEL, & tipping trailer, plus have also designed & made a Field Slasher / mower, & a side-delivery rake, and even a Hay baler,- everything set to scale, and based on the real farm machinery. Even have a spectacular working Mobile Crane for good measure.
** Yes I do have plans available, and a website,- BUT if you wish to know more you will have to contact me direct, otherwise I will be breaking forum rules,- and I don't want to do that.
    Cheers,
    Roger

Wow Roger that's amazing, very impressive.
When you've got time, it'd be great to see some photos of the other toys you've made.
    Cheers, Crowie

    Default Thank you guys

Thank you everyone for your comments to date,- and I mean it too.
Now am going to find some more pics for eveyone to look at,-
Let me see,- there's the Aussie Ute, which is based on the well-known Ford Falcon XD-XH model range,- along with a tanden trailer to go behind, then there's Fashion Doll, ( 'Barbie,' ) Furniture, plus ordinary Doll House Furniture too, plus the Field mower, hay rake, & hay baler,- actually have about 50 different wooden toy designs.
Tomorrow, ( Friday ), am planning to go out to a local Farm Clearing Sale with my camera to take some pics of an old, ' Blitz,' Crane truck, ( another Model-Toy possibility ), plus take some other pics of a farm cultivator, & a 24 row Seed Drill to see IF I can design workable Model-Toys without going, ' batty,' in the process.
Already have a prototype Farm Grader, & a Chisel plow, both on wheels which go behind the tractor, then I plan to design a Tractor-drawn PTO Header,- already got the technical specs, pics, etc.,etc.
One could say I like a challenge, or two !!!
    Happy woodworking everyone
    Roger

Do make toy doll house furniture too, plus doll houses, dolls cradles, and all kinds of things, plus custom designed wooden signs, even pet memorials,- and the occasional full size dining table, along with collectors clocks,( featuring Aussie muscle-cars - plans available If anyone is interested ).
See if I can dig up some more photos for everyone to have a look at.
    Happy woodworking everyone,
    Roger
