    Default Cabover Semi Truck

I finally got an itch to build a new toy/scale model truck. I think Andy was rather happy to start one as well.

Andy and his nephew dug around in the toy parts drawer and found some wheels.

Then they brought a load of lumber to start the build. The darker color is aromatic Cedar I will use for the chassis.

Machined the wheels down a little thinner.

    20170612_141035 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Used the lathe to shave them down about an 1/8". This makes them closer to 1/20th scale.

Made the entire cab parts with this one board.

Quick mockup. Still have a lot of shaping to do.

    Front mud guards.

Cut out a section of them so they would sit lower to the front wheels and bring the height of the cab down.

Temp was hovering around 94*. Time for a break.

Having alot of fun making this truck. It has been a long time since I built the last one.

One last stint this evening after it cooled down.

Pulled out some of my model making tools to help make some small parts.

    20170613_193755 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Headlight frames. Made out of Mahogany.

    20170613_193759 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Made these 2 filler pieces to fill in where I notched the mud guards for the frame.

    20170613_194136 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Just a quick note I mock up all my builds with rubber cement. It makes a good temporary bond and is easy to get off the wood to glue and finish it.

Headlight brackets on, top grill piece, and front bumper.

I am guessing Andy's nephew's name is Doug?

Glad they are helping with the build.

Thank You. I hope you got your A/C installed. I want to have a stab at the Mack LR you made. It looks to be an interesting build.

After that had to run out and get some supplies and the Mrs. wanted to go to Hobby Lobby.

Last thing this evening. This crappy 4" dust collection hose I got from grizzly does not like to stay in the stretched position. So I thought I would clamp it over night and see if it would lose it's memory. Then I got the bright idea to use my heat gun on it and maybe "erase" the memory. That seemed to be working until I got to close. Oh well.

A little turning I see Bret fuel tank looks good.

Looks like a bit of tape to repair the hose. The problem being is the metal coil is what is closing it and not the plastic outer.

I too Like your gas tank and have a couple a barrels I've not been able to find a use for till now.
I love finding uses for some of the odd wood shapes Hobby Lobby has for sale.
Now if they would just sell some head lights.
