Cannon base plans
Does anyone know where I can get hold of some plans to redo/finish my 1986 yr10 Junior industrial arts project (found whilst searching for my dads 60's Stanley no.4 plane, which I also found)
heres a pic, and I think the base needs remaking, I'm not going to polish the cannon, I like the aged look despite ahold up of white chalky residue underneath which I will remove carefully.
Dalboy, this might just be up your alley.

Although thinking about it, the base has a nice shape and may just need some carving of board lines some rivets and a brass clasp blackened, a chain or 2.
It just feels like there is something missing.
any help appreciated.

My Dad was a Manual Arts teacher in W.A. and this was one of his models for the kids. It looks similar to yours, hope there is enough detail to help you finish yours off.
Regards
Rick

very similar indeed, must be the same Education dept program. I had to manipulate a holding mechanism to turn it round in the Jaws, and didn't quite get the end o the diametre of your dads. but that looks pretty much from the same plan. what are the chances - did he ever teach I NSW?

Fumbler,
My dad never taught outside WA, that didn't mean that he could not have sourced teaching material from other states. I wouldn't be surprised if my dad had made a special tool to do the ball at the back of the cannon.

I remember like it was yesterday, i used a cut off section of pool scoop aluminium handle (as we got rid of the pool and no longer needed). I/we (help from the old man) cut it length ways to open it up to fit round, then outside of hat I used a piece of PVC pipe cut the same way and when both were compressed they fit snuggly around the cannon and gripped nicely by the chuck jaws, turn it round and true.
