Hi Crowie,
This build is close to my heart being an agi driver for 26 years. That's a big American rig you're building and I thought a comment on the booster axle may be of interest. On the road the wheels on the BA assisted in carrying the load and keeping you legal, but because they're not driving and because they extend the length of the truck they are unhelpful once you're on the building site. The axle is raised out of the way to overcome these problems.
I'll be watching this build with interest and you can tell your grandson that I'm pretty envious of him.

Its also great that the Forumites getting behind you and assisting behind the scenes. Yes it shows we are just a big family scattered all over the place

The Wood Magazine is a USA publication, so yes, there Construction Series would be based on American trucks and machinery; great series of vehicles of which I've made a good few.

Thank you for the explanation on why the funny looking extra boggy is added to the rear of the truck.


It is in the plans but I'm thinking about leaving it off to make the toy more playable for little boys.

Today was Neighbourhood Visitor Program day so spent the morning with the old gent I've recently started visiting for a cuppa, morning tea and a chat.

This afternoon was spent remaking exhaust stacks after a drilling error, can't blame Handy as I was getting tired yesterday and mucked up.

Shaped the profile of the water tank cradle and glued the trough pivot block into the base of the pedestals.

Only other part of the project was to run the 1/8" router bit around all the finished edges.


Tomorrow morning is medical appointment but hopefully I'll get a little shed time in the afternoon.

How far are the twin wheels apart Crowie? I'd be worried about little fingers and wheels close together.

There's a good amount of free space between the double boggies [drawing inserted]
and if not as I've already extended the chassis another 1/2" will work.

Also with previous toys I've made that have similar setups, it hasn't been an issue and they've had hours of play..

That rear axle set up is uniquely American and I wouldn't imagine to ever see one like that here. No use importing them because their Agi's rotate in the opposite direction to ours. So to leave them off would be appropriate for Aus.

Those drums are something I could have done quite easily for you and if you need any such in the future please get in contact.

Thank you Geoff for sharing your knowledge and now I understand the rear dolly setup BUT as you said, never seen anything like that here, so it'll be left off....
