Top work that.
I am not sure of American practice, but perhaps a pair of red tail lamps could give it that bit of extra detail. Keith 1 is able to make lamps but I think his scale is a bit bigger.

Have just cut out 20' a track, the train needs 10' but while you're making tracks you might as well make extra.
PS It is a lot!!! of cutting and sanding but hey what's new there. lol
I did the same thing when making tracks for my excavator, made enough for two projects and when I got the wild hair to build the smaller bull dozier I was ready, hey the tools are set up helps make quicker work out of the second project.

Making tracks
Is that what the ties are called sleepers?
I guess it goes with any job they have their own language and different areas use more.
I'm thinking 40 sleepers will get the job done we'll see.
My train cars are just over 5' long.
I am splitting the tracks in two so will have a coupling near the middle, making it much easier to work in my small shop.
So have made enough track for two shelves 5' long and will have a shelf made up for my truck and low boy, I'm looking forward to the shelve build something different to sink my teeth into.
So here's some pictures of the track build.
The first cuts are with a ten degree angle.

The rails look great
With the sleepers (only pine) - on my builds to add a weathered effect I use a wire brush on my angle grinder to get into the grain - then use an acrylic brown wash - just a thought for you
