They're really coming along nicely. I hope your leap of faith is paying off for you as you appear to be enjoying this work and have some great ideas.
How long did it take you to make the truck?
What did you use for the black lettering?Dallas

Thanks mate. I made 3 at once (two dump trucks and a tow truck)and took careful account of the time, I was aiming for 8hrs each but missed by 2 odd hrs. I had to make 8 or so templates however which I won't have to worry about again and I find the second time I make something I can usually cut that down quite a bit the second time. I'm still concerned about the time but I'm so well received I have faith that I'll figure it all out in the end. I just buy stick on lettering, the wife enjoys doing it. I've started using a spray on shellac after I had a bit of a disaster with linseed oil, I really do like the finish (even though my painting abilities leave a lot to be desired) but boy is it expensive to buy in a can! Is it true you can buy it in it's powdered form and mix your own?

You can buy Zinsser shellac by the gallon premixed. I used to get it through masters before they were closed. Since then I've been getting it from Bunnings in Australia for 79 bux using special orders. I presume you can do the same in NZ.

Yeah, that's the stuff I've been using, 38 bucks a can. Perhaps I'm putting it on too thick as I'm only getting 3 or 4 toys out of it.

If you mix your own flakes and rub it on, it should last for almost ever. At $38 a can you can't afford to keep doing it that way.
