Default wood cut kits, loco's etc

    Hi Crew,

I was a little apprehensive posting as its not exactly wood working by hand but was spurred on by a few to post some pics of the kits we are starting to cut so here goes

This was one I did over the weekend, its an EMD30 Diesel Engine Loco, the kit went together really well and placed up nicely, its around 90 pieces in total

I chose to make the kit from European Poplar, this wood is very light and low density plywood, it has a bright finish and does mark well but i need to work on my marking settings as they did not come up as dark as i wanted

Here is the parts all cut up on the laser bed and then separated into type (minus the main frame)

This is the construction for the main frame

Part of the roof is curved and this is how its done

The electrics box is then added to the side of the frame, The front can also be done now, adding the nose of the engine to the loco

The wheel carriages are really strong and can be made individually before adding them to the body

I can only imagine that a heck of a lot of programming has gone into that kit. Looks fantastic assembled.
You will have to show us more of your work.

Thank you. i cannot take full credit for the design. i work with an English engineering plan builder and we brainstorm ideas and he does most if not all of the line work. this one was over 300 lines of cutting. next one we are doing is an EMD40 which is about twice the size and close to 200 parts.

I hope to have a few more carriages and locos built in the coming weeks.

A lot of work in the program for the cutting.
    Thank you for sharing.

The box between the bogies is usually the fuel tank.

I don't like most of the laser cut kits. However, I love this one. It's detailed, realistic and sturdy.
If you think about selling, do not forget the scroll sawing community. These plans are ideal to cut on the scrollsaw and there are not a lot of plans like these. These is only one book like this I think... Make Your Own Model Dinosaurs: 7 Prehistoric Patterns for the Scroll Saw. I really like that one, but they are quite big when finished. This might have it's own audience, online or as a book.

A lot of time gone into the design of the loco and the end result looks good. I am not a lover of this type of construction but appreciate all of the work and design that goes into making them. You both are very clever men in this side of woodworking
