Default A Giraffe and a Koala

A couple of recent money boxes to encourage kids to save.
The Giraffe is 560mm high and the coin goes down through a long slot in his neck. This was one of those projects where you have a piece of wood and think what can I make with this.
The Giraffe was made from pine and then colour stained yellow with some splashes of orange dye.
The Koala was made from a New Guinea Rosewood offcut.

While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Silly question I know, but at the end of the day, how do you get the money out without breaking your "Works of Art"?

    Hi Tiny
On the rear side of the boxes the acrylic discs are held in place with 4 small Phillips head ss screws.

What great ideas. Are they made from 2 pieces with the coin slot routered before joining together?
    Very inspiring work.

    They are great!

It has got me wondering if you could make one with a groove for the coin to do a loop then drop in to a money box at the back? Money boxes may be my next project fad, hoping to have my owl done in a few days.

Great money boxes especially like the giraffes, don't forget to put the first penny in to start them on their saving career

    Thanks all..
Dallas, the giraffe piece was resawn down the middle so that a slot could be cut in from the the head to the hole. It was then reglued and the shape cut out using a 3 mm blade.
Dalboy, with my grandkids I offer them the choice of a $1 coin or a $2 coin and my eldest one says "I won't be greedy, I will take the little one....

They look really nice! I like the realism in them.
