    Thanks for the offer Steve,

I might take you up on that offer

Do you use Testors to seal the decal before inserting in the water ?

I will contact you via a PM

    Default GNR Stirling Locomotive

    Cool

You can check the motor's operational by applying voltage directly to the contacts. That said, you're right to clean the wheels etc first as they're often the weak link.

FYI pretty sure what you have there is a Hornby (possibly Tri-ang Hornby) OO gauge/scale layout.

(OO is 4mm to the foot. HO is 1/8inch to the foot... just to complicate things!)

    A terrific acquisition!

The sticky back stuff I'm referring to doesn't require sealing but if you want to use the water slide sheet I'd reckon it's a different process.

    Hi All,

Been busy painting and fitting a bit together, but still has to all come apart again.

It's pretty nerve wracking this painting caper - don't want to muck it up after spending a long time building the components.

Didn't know whether to put the wide yellow pinstripe on the wheel arch guard - Cathie said "go for it" - so I did - think it's OK but need a few more coats on it.

The cabin has only one coat at the moment. Eventually it will have white pinstriping around the windows and will have "polished brass" hand rails.

I will give the cabin more coats of paint and work on the driving arms - they will be pewter colour with brass bearings.

Then onto painting the brake system and then the piston rod assembly.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

Today I started some major assembly - parts cannot be taken apart with ease. This was necessary when I started on the main piston drive assembly. The Smokebox has to be fixed to enable this part of the assembly. Fitted the main drive wheel drive assembly on the Driver's side of the locomotive. I used a kids acrylic metallic gold paint from Spotlight for the brass bearings on the main drive arm. Still need to do some painting of components for the Fireman's Side and will then assemble.
I made up a template out of MDF to allow the pinstriping of the perimeter of the cabin. I made up some "dummy" centres out of MDF to allow me to pinstripe around the cabin windows. Starting to come together. Finish off the "Fireman's" side and then do the sandbox assemblies.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

It tooka fair bit longer than I thought to finish off the painting on the locomotive section, that being said I made a few modifications on how I was going to secure the cabin section to the chasis.

I added an "angle iron" (really aluminium angle) to the cabin base which allowed me to secure on both the cabin and chasis and I think it looks a bit more realistic.

I also added an angle across the back of the footplate to finish off the timber (Tassie Oak) boards.

A bit extravagant on the sandbox caps and levers by painting them a brass colour but adds abit of contrast and colour to the locomotive.
Nowit is onto painting the tender section.

    Regards

    Keith

Looks fantastic Keith and an excellent job on the painting.
Look forward to seeing it in real life soon.
