Handy's been giving me a real hard time lately as I've been painting for our daughter
Handy's been giving me a real hard time lately as I've been painting for our daughter.....
So finally I've managed to squeeze in some shed time for me.
Handy found a new wooden toy plan which he said he's sure I'd like to build with him.
We started the other day but I jacked up saying it's way too small for my liking so I up-scaled the plan by 150%...
The restart has been fun working out all the imperial measurements at 150%, but it seems to be working.
Of course there will be a number of Peterbilt modifications and personalization to come.

Here's a chart that might help with your conversions. Much easier in metric.
Good to see you back into it. Much rather be in the shop than painting any day.Dallas

Peter how in the name of all things did you fall into painting. It is my worst nightmare. Handy give him some Stick from the rest of us.

Yes gents the painting did become somewhat tiresome.....
55lts of undercoat primer,
20lts of ceiling paint,
20lts of wall paint,
4lts of architraves & door frames.....
All done in 1-2 hour lots as it knocked me up heaps; I'd much prefer shed time making toys with Handy...
Cheers, Peter
PS - Thanks Dallas for the metric/imperial conversation chart, in the past I've mucked a few builds trying to convert imperial design plans to straight metric....

Glad to see you get some shed time Peter I have just got back into the shed myself and also getting back on to some of the forums I belong to. This looks like a jeep by the front grill.
I have been building a Prime mover from your neck of the world, still have to make some wheels or modify some comercially brought ones.

Thank you Ian, I when through school as imperial and did my training in the RAN in imperial then worked with many imperial machinery companies during my working life.
I have about a half dozen of both imperial & metric rules but the best tool is my Moore & Wright digital vernier which has both.
Cheers, Peter

Thank you one and all for siding with Handy.....
Thank you one and all for siding with Handy.....
It's been a hard slog as yesterday it was moving furniture ready for the floor sander at our daughters and today I've hurt bad....
The shed time in a couple of short stints was a welcome relax as working with timber making a toy just clears your head....
I've made and remade a number of parts as I've been sorting out timber colour contrasts along with parts...

Mostly all just mockup at present as I still need to ensure everything fits together correctly after the 150% upsizing....

Well the woods all look good together but as you know that can change when a finish is applied.
The jeep is taking shape Peter and like you I do a lot of dry fits even without enlarging the plans.
I keep meaning to get small off cuts and stick them to a board and apply a finish so that I can see all the woods and end colours with a finish but like most things I never get around to it as I would rather be making something more useful.
