    Default Monster truck wheels

Hi guys, haven't been posting much for a while been heavily involved with managing a men's shed. but thats another story. I remember a few years ago someone posted a detailed method of making those heavy truck wheels with those big lugs on the tyres. I think it may have been Bret but long time ago. The wheel was made in two halves as I remember with the tread running it different direction and then glued together down the middle so the tread looked very authentic just like on those monster trucks. If anyone can remember the post can point me to it would be great.

cannot help you with the thread but i cut square blanks in 3/4 inch stock then drill a 17/64th hole and then all the following jigs use a 1/4inch dowel ... cut them round on the bandsaw and true them on a sander ... i mark a blank with 18 even marks on the circumference and then mark the other blanks from it ... i make a jig for the mitre gauge on the router and rout 1/8inch grooves first one direction then the other .... anywhere between 25 and 45 degrees seems to work although i prefer about 30 ... i drill a larger hole through the outside halves and on the lathe make a rim just by turning a cylinder, drilling first a 17/64th hole then a larger hole about half inch deep and then parting off at about 3/4 inch ... clamp them together with a 1/4 whitworth bolt and a few clamps around the edges ....

i will pm a link to flickr where i ahve a couple there

    regards david
