I live in the Netherlands, so it's available in specialist shops. There are also some people who sell on Ebay, maybe you can try to get some colors from there to try.

Hi swk ,
I use White Knight Splashes gloss acrylic enamel .
There is a lot of colours and they are nice and bright .
That is what I use and if you would like to see some
of the paint colours I have some toys in my album on
the Forum here under Matador . I hope that helps with
paint colours for your toys .
Cheers Graham

Haven't actually used food dye, but a friend who is allergic to a hell of a lot of things had a wooden necklace (that was promoted as all natural blah blah ) that suddenly started reacting with her skin. Also color started coming out. My theory was that the beeswax finish had worn off and then the dye has started to come out. When vegetable dyes are used on fabrics they are fixed somehow. Perhaps it doesn't get fixed so well in wood. I have rewaxed it with ubeaut's traditional wax. Might wear a bit better. Although might actually need shellac sanding sealer to fix it properly. Will see how this goes.
Not sure if the water dyes do this as well. Might be better if they are sealed in with sanding sealer too.anne-maria.
