Why pay good money for a rusty old filing cabinet?
I bought this rusty old four draw filing cabinet from a gentleman in Launceston yesterday.

I payed two hundred bucks for it, you might think I'm mad for buying such a pile of junk!.
But when you open it "Oh My".
IMG_7800.JPG IMG_7809.JPG
It's cram packed with almost 1200 Model Engineering Magazines.
Starting from the mid 1940's and running through to 2014.
The bulk of it is The Model Engineer magazine, but there's also Model Maker, Australian Model Engineering and Engineering in Miniature.
The nine folders sitting on top of the cabinet are full as well.

I'm not into building engineered models or even using plans to much for that matter.
But it's a lifetime of fantastic reference material.

The early stuff as specially is full of cars, motorbikes, boats and trains "Brilliant".
I haven't had much time to go through it all, but there's a lot of useful info for Charlie (and anyone else it maybe helpful to for that matter).
I've already found a complete set of plans for a Crampton.
I thought I was on a winner for the Stirling as well, but the plans are for a 2-2-2.
Still it's early days who knows what's hiding in amongst all those pages.
Cheers
Trev.

Hey Trev,
You are good at getting the good oil mate. That is very close to my Stirling, same wheel configuration - but has internal drive cylinders. Top news about the CramptonMATE.

What a score.
Years ago I was buying AME, even contributed an article or two. Trouble was finding a place to keep them if they are not being read.
I think you have a fantastic library, all you need is a decent index or two.
How did you move it? Draws are normally a pain to take out of filing cabinets.

Instant library
That lot will keep you busy for a while Trev!
Might be worthwhile looking for the magazines that have the annual index in them and photographing / scanning those for quick reference.
There will be heaps of items to give you inspiration within all those pages, looking forward to hearing your discoveries and how they will help in constructing the Brough.
Happy reading,
Alan...

Your right Al there is an annual index in The Model Engineer magazine (Thank Heavens).
And your right again about helping with the Brough.
Although most of the information is about steam trains and such, all the engineering drawings of the mechanics are "brilliant".
Monkey See, Monkey Modify!.
On the question of how many nights to get through it all Derek.
I'm thinking I may as well read the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Cheers

Great to hear from you my friend.
I hope all is well and going fine.
I was looking through so of the 50's stuff last night and found these.

I reckon they'd have nine fingers written all over them.
I really like the Pegaso it's a whoopy looking thing!.

You'd be surprised what high functioning autistics can do and not get bored.
When I was a kid about 12 or so, I rewrote Tolkien's The Hobbit (or There and Back Again) in Runes.
From start in finish including doing all of the drawings.
One of my friends at school really like it, so I gave it to her.
I wonder if she's still got it.
The only thing I find troublesome in life is catching sight of shiny things out of the corner of my eye!.
That and of cause being just the tiniest bit obsessive.
If you have a look at handplanepatents.com you'll find about 700 or so patents that have all been cleaned up and straightened.
That's only about half of the number that I've done.
I've also done the same with German, English, French, Dutch, Swiss and any other countries I could find Handplane Patents for.
That was pretty much the way I spent 2012!.
Fair to say it takes a lot to bore me.
I love repetition and consistency, it's just like building a 1926 Brough!.
Cheers mate
