    Default Rubber Bands.....

A couple of years ago I made some rubber band pistols for my then 12yo grandson. He is now 14 and likes to make things so he wanted to make a bolt action rubber band rifle and as it is now school holiday times last week we set about making one from some $5 plans from the Internet. Mostly scroll/band saw stuff along with a few cut pieces and a few holes to be drilled on the drill press. The plans were poor even though there was a You Tube tutorial there were a few things we had to work out but in the end he finished up with a working bolt action rubber band gun. Here are a couple of pictures. The magazine is just for show and holds spare rubber bands. You can preload about 6 to 8 shots and just have to reset using the bolt action between shots.Great spending some shed time with him as it gets him away from all those video/iphone/ipad thingos and he shows good aptitude to things mechanical....

While looking at You Tube tutorial videos we came across another rubber band gun and decided to have a crack at a lever action rubber band gun. The plans for this one were FREE and supremely detailed on how to make all the parts and assemble the unit. As I said before, these plans were excellent and easy to follow. This one is virtually made solely on a scroll saw and the parts glued together in the right order. It works perfectly after some minor fitting adjustments and is very realistic as it is basically a replica of an 1870's firearm. Here are some pictures showing the mechanism and the finished item. It was a fun build.

WOW what a beauty. Just make sure he plays with it in the back yard and not out on the street. The boys and girls in BLUE get a bit over zealous at times!!!!!
It looks so realistic, cept the barrels a bit rusty

Amazing work, you guys should be proud! Love the lever action especially, they've always been one of my favourite firearms to shoot.

Very cool. I've seen some pistols online I'd like to try myself. How many hrs do you think you spent on this?

Thanks for the comments. The bolt action took about 6 hours to make spread over two days. The lever action was maybe 9 hours over a couple of days but let me say I never tally hours when in the shed......sounds too much like being at work! There is quite a bit of waiting time between glue ups especially with the way the lever action rifle is made.

Terrific job Ruddy. I have an 1873 Winchester 44.40 saddle carbine and you've produced an excellent replica. Would you mind letting us know the web address for the lever action. I'd love to have a go at producing one.

Thanks Ole......When you visit the site you can download the plans and also get links to the two tutorials on YouTube. They are comprehensive and easy to follow.

Not only a rubber band gun but an elegant result at the same time. Very well done.
Now you need to introduce the shooter to stock carving!
