    Default Simple canon

Long story to this youngest son and his family holiday in Croatia they picked up a souvenir canon made of pine this of course grandson wanted for a toy to play with Not just that but the design of the canon was to say the least something you would want people to see.

So grandson ask if I could make another that was 2 years ago and they are about to return for another holiday so i am glad I have made and finished one of 3. A bit of design from every where plain simple and just a toy. Blue Gum for the barrel and wheels crapiata for the carriage and axles pins which were turned.

They look good Ray. Good wooden toys were always my favourite.

I guess you could use your new metal lathe to make a canon that fires!

Thanks Nathan Not as good as I would like them to be but they are a play thing not a show thing.

Funny someone else said the same thing I guess it is possible once I get some other long standing jobs out of the way.

Now you just need to put something like this in them

    Great job Ray, well done....
Now here's a thought for you; I saw Myth Busters about a week ago on wooden barrel cannons are they work.
Hollow out the centre of the barrel, add at least 3 metal rings to the outside, straight out of the blacksmiths furnace to shrink them into the cannon barrel; you'll get a few good shots out of it depending on the amount & quality of black powder you use & of course the strength of the timber in the barrel....
I hope the grandsons didn't see that Myth Busters episode.....
    Cheers, crowie

Looks like a fun and simple project. As long as the kids enjoy them that is the main thing

Peter as I said with RSG not this one but I do have two spare barrells

Digger I am glad I let go my expectations otherwise it would still not have been finished

Well they still sit here on my desk spoke to the GS tonight and he is bursting to come choose his before they return at the end of the month for another holiday OS.

However as my beautiful grand daughter is not interested in canons Pop now has a baby bed to make wish me luck.

Good luck look forward to seeing it.
I have got parts for a bed already cut to size just need to make some joints and rout some slots for the base. Then the wife can have it to make the mattress and covers. Been told by G/grandaughter it has to be mauve bedding.
She also wanted a settee but luckily the wife had one the right size she had some teddies sitting on.

I don't know about you but as fast as I complete one job another comes along

Digger I found 3 bed designs last night she will get to choose which one nana is already planning and for our GD its pink every thing is pink. I just hope she doesn't want the timber painted..........maybe some faded Purple Heart or some other pinkish timber LOL.
