Simple toys we made in primary school
I'm looking for a pattern of a toy made of 3ply. It was a clown character with a long upward hooked nose with a wooden ring attached by string. The idea was to flip the ring up and catch it on its nose. Unfortunately my skills haven't progressed much in the last 55 odd years but you've got to start somewhere! Seriously any simple to make toy plans that kids under five would like but a man with all thumbs couldn't stuff up when making them. Show me what you've got.

Sorry can't help you with the game you're looking for.
I've made several Tumbling Clowns, the clowns arms are made in a "S" shape and he tumbles between pegs that are spaced far enough apart that the clowns hands sit on one peg, and just miss the peg opposite, as he slides across the hand catches the peg below and so forth it goes. I made the bar with pegs approx 600 long, it can be hung from a door knob or any vertical surface.
Haven't got any pics as it was predigital camera days, and the grand kids have lost the clown, will look for the plans tomorrow.
Another game I've made a few of is Naughts and Crosses.
KrynTo grow old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

Brilliant! If I did it with 3ply what tools would I need? A scroll saw?

I' suggest a bench top bandsaw -- though a 14 inch floor standing model wold be a better choice

Ganjing,
Agree with Ian , but depends - I think on the size of the blade in the bandsaw. I have a larger blade that doesn't particularly like tight corners etc unless you do multiple cuts from different angles.
On 3 ply - if I was making it in my shed I would probably use my scroll saw - but whatever you feel more comfortable with. Hope it goes well
Regards

At least you can print out the left and right images from the links on the page and glue them to your 3 ply instead of card as they suggest and then cut around them. I would glue one side on and cut out the shape and then glue the other side on so they end up in line with each other. The clown could even be done with a coping saw if you don't have other equipment. The ring could be done with a hole saw, or again with a coping saw.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure we used a coping saw at school too. I know I wasn't very good at it.

Evening All,
Ah yes the old coping saw woodworking sessions. I remember cutting out a tortoise basically plan view, drilling a hole in the centre between the front legs through which you passed a long piece of string. We attached one end to a fixed object and by tensioning and releasing the string, the tortoise moved along the ground. Set up several side by side and have races. I think they were about a foot square give or take. Definitely pre decimal days. This was 50 plus years ago and I think fretsaw blades and I had a love hate relationship. At least my scroll saw now does the hard labour.
