Default Slow build of a half track

Not made anything here for a while so I thought I would like to build a half track, do not expect a daily build as I have other projects on the go including a truck for the magazine that will not be posted until complete as well as two pens a set of salt and pepper shakers two pen desk stands and monthly competition pieces to turn.

I managed to start with a few bits machined up also in the picture are some of the other bits I will be making.

In the picture the boards at the back are the first parts for the half track and the truck build, on the left are the desk pen set. the acrylic blanks and pen kits next the other flat board in fron is for the operating levers for some soldier nutcrackers which I started and the right is the salt and pepper shaker bits including an old bowls ball which is going to be the wood for that.

Okay, its been nearly 9 hours since you posted that, so have you finished those couple of little things yet?
Alright, I'll sit back patiently and wait for the finished articles which I'm sure will be outstanding.

Well today managed to cut out two main chassis beams one for the half track and the other for the truck used these with a router a so I was able to copy and get identical beams well the half track one went Ok but the truck broke (see second picture) so at least this build is OK. Cut the cross support beams and the front under plate, also whilst the main beams were together I drilled some holes for the track drive and main idle wheel.
So at least I have a chassis to work with.

It is a little model makers plane that I use to plane planks for the hulls of model boats. You need one this small as the planks are only 1/4" wide X 1/16" thick.

Nothing done today as i was teaching someone the basics of woodturning

Did I mention that this was a slow build I should have said a VERY SLOW build.

Managed to get into the shed and re-cut the chassis frame for the other build and get that assembled in between that I did get the front springs cut out and fitted on the half track.
Hope to start the drive shaft assemblies next.

Don't worry about the build not going to fast.
It's a half track after all!.
You can't expect it to go a hundred miles an hour!.

    Looking great mate.

    Cheers

OK I did say this was going to be a slow build but the good news is that because I finished the build on the Prime Mover and done a few bits of turning I can now get back on with the half track at a much faster pace, so hopefully now you will get more regular updates as this is the only thing going on in the shed now.

Anyway back to the build I found how to get parts printed out to the correct size which was something that "The Hermit" posted quite a while ago. Which I did as can be seen on the thin piece of wood. I could have used thin ply but rather use solid wood. You can see the pattern glued ready for cutting out also cut some Oak down to square stock ready to turn idle wheels, drive wheel, drive shafts and differentials.

I will be cutting these out and turning those tomorrow as I wear a turning smack and full face shield with the weather as it is at the moment it is too hot with the extra clothing. I could have smiled but this was taken when my back was still giving me trouble

Good to put a face to the name Derek.

When Cathie takes a photo of me - the expression on your face is what she calls a smile

Hope you can get in your shed again soon and keep up your excellent work.

All the Best (hope your back is now OK)

    Regards

    Keith

G'Day Derek, I was wonder you the bloke in the polar suit was in the middle of the English summer........
We have been cold down here with overnights as low as 6deg"C" and days as low as 19deg"C" and I have to wear my heated jacket in the shed.
Looking forward to more of the build thank you...Cheers, Peter
