Default How to make a spring rocker???

Any ideas about how to make a copy of a playground spring rocker?

All they seem to be is a giant spring with a plate at each end, one going into the ground and the other holding the rocker.
Making the rocker would be relatively easy, but where do i get a strong enough spring?

    How would you do it?

Wreckers for second hand. Car parts stores for new, & Suspension suppliers/repairers for new or used.

A car suspension spring should do the trick. autObarn or Repco will sell you new, but usually only in pairs. Places like Pedders might have coils they normally throw away after an upgrade as opposed to a wreckers that you'd usually have to remove yourself.
Too many projects, so little time, even less money!

    Default Spring rocker

Secondhand coil springs are usually the easy bit,- almost every service station, & automotive repairer has at least one lying around somewhere. If you are wanting real heavy-duty tough springs, farm Implement parts suppliers are another source. The hard part is welding the top, & bottom steel plates onto the spring so it sits level. I can't help you here as am a hopeless welder at any time,- luckily I have a neighbour who can weld almost anything,- and gets everything sitting straight, & square too !!!
I have made a few of these ,'Springy,' rockers over the years, and found most youngsters really adore them. Mine had either a horse head, or a, ' Blinky Bill,' type head on them, although with a bit of creative imagination one could put all sorts of shapes onto the actual rocker.
Hope this bit of info is of some help,
    Roger

    G'Day "perthmum",
From the pictures I've seen the spring is secured to a plate top and bottom with 4 or 5 shaped strapes [like a saddle] and screwed firmly into the plate; you could even weld the strapes.
    Cheers, Crowie
