Stack of flowers
For my 1 year old daughter I wanted to make something colourful and educational. After looking around, I decided to make a stack of flowers. It is 19 cm in diameter, each flower is 18 mm thick. It is quite heavy for a 1 year old, but she manages to take off the first 3 flowers already. Only thing I do not like is the fact that the paint I used still stick a little. It is 3 weeks ago since I painted the flowers, and when I let them sit for a day on top of each other, the tend to stick. In the first week this even caused chipping of the paint. But, my daughter doesn't mind, so why should I? The photo's are not the best, but you'll get the idea...

Cava,
The wood I used is beech.
19 cm is wide, that's the main reason it is heavy. I wanted a lot of flowers, and a size difference between them that a child can see. Therefore I needed it to be wide. It is 19 cm because that is the size of an A4 paper from the home printer I used for printing the templates.

Great little toy for your girl. You could try putting some paste wax all over the flowers and buff it off. This should stop the sticking.

Just a thought Bob. When I use acrylic paint on toys I always put a clear coat of lacquer over the top to form a hard finish, protecting the paint. Cheers Peter
