Be careful Keith as Cathie might start enjoying woodwork

Glad to hear she is feeling better.

The build is really taking shape now like the idea of having opening doors, what hinges have you used

    Thanks Derek,

I don't think Cathie is the Woodwork type - more the quilter.

I used small music box hinges (20mm brass) from Bunnings - only cost $1.50 per set of 2.

    Hi All,

Very slow progress on the carriage as I have had to make and fit window jambs for the carriage windows and the door windows. I cut 3mm X 3mm strip wood on the table saw and then fitted these as the jambs.
All the windows are now glazed and at the moment I can remove them from each of the frames. Later, there will be another internal jamb fitted to permanently fit the window into each frame.
I have hug the doors to the frames on both sides of the carriage. This was quite finicky. What I did was to recess the frame for the hinge and fit the hinge. I then opened the hinge partially and put a layer of 5 minute araldite on the hinge and then sat the door in position on the hinge. When dry I drilled the door with a 1mm drill in the hinge position and then screwed the hinge into position. Doing this gave me a 1.5mm clearance on both sides of the door verticals and the door frames.

Merry Christmas to all - if I don't post again before Christmas.

    Best Regards

    Keith

    Hi all,

Hope everyone had an enjoyable day yesterday with family and friends.

I have done a bit more on the carriage.

I have inserted packers above and below each door to give minimal clearance for each of the 6 opening doors.

Have also started on the roofing framework to give me the curved roofing.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi Everyone,

Hope you all have a safe New Years Eve and a very happy 2019.

I have been working a bit more on the Rocket Carriage. Bowls has gone into a 3 week recess over Christmas.

I am now happy that the carriage is starting to look a bit more like a carriage. I added some extra framing to the curved roof section and have been cladding the inside of the carriage on one side. I can take the whole carriage apart (that is why I am only clamping the walls at this stage). This makes it much easier to work on. I have also clad both side of each of the carriage doors. Again I took the doors off to make it easier to clad them.
I have added my old beer can to give some idea of the size.

    Best Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

I have been working on the individual compartments of the carriage. I have clad the dividing walls of each compartment. Each compartment will have 6 seats and there is access via a door on each side of the compartment.

The next part of my project will be cladding the external walls of the carriage and also reviewing what material I will be using on the internal walls of the carriage. It will be a silk like material in probably a beige colour.

    Regards

    Keith

Keith, good to see you are making progress with your carriage. Look forward to when you are selling tickets for the seats - it will be First Class.
The commoners will need to wait for the Third Class open - bring your own cushion.

Wishing you and Cathie a Healthy and Happy New Year.

    Thanks Kevin.

All the best to your family also.

Yes the third class really suffered - no roof and exposed to the elements - would have been quite tough in those days.

    Regards

    Keith
