Hi All,
Over the past week and a bit I have fully dismantled the carriage and carried out painting.
The subframe is now complete.
As I have done in previous locomotives - the cast iron / steel sections I have painted in Dulux "Domino". I think that this gives the most realistic cast colour. I just buy sample pots - $9 for 500ml.
The machined steel colour (the shafts for the buffers) - I have done in Dulux "Bluescope Ironstone". This is slightly lighter in colour than the Domino and looks more like a machined steel.
I am now back working on the carriage itself. I am filling all the countersunk screw heads and joints with bodyfiller and sanding back. This is a pretty big task. The carriage will then need a complete repaint.
Regards
Keith

So I take it that an open carriage is not on the books then Keith do you want me to tell Kathy that you are building another carraige(I'm far enough away she can't hit me)
Glad to see some paint starting to go on, and at this stage I am already thinking what your next project will be

Derek,
Thanks for your comments - in reality Cathie loves me working on the locos and only gets a bit cranky when I need to put them somewhere.
I am still thinking of a diesel loco as my next build

Keith, the though of you making a second (and third) carriage for the Stephenson's Rocket would be awesome, but then the house becomes a showroom and the shed the bedroom. (Probably a better option than a doghouse.)
I always liked the streamlined B & S class diesels, but the streamlined noses would be a challenge to make. The original blue and gold paint made a statement.

The one on the right is the winner for me I did a scratch build of it years back and have always loved it's shape.

I have always said that I think the British have always had the most beautiful looking steam locomotives and your link proves that point.
I am still thinking of doing a diesel because then I would have a history of locomotives from the Peny-Darren right through to 1950/60's diesels
I am leaning towards the S or B Class because of the challenge of the streamlined front of the loco. I think I am a bit more confident using body filler. Still quite a bit of work to go on the carriage though. Then trackwork to make and also display cabinets (Cathie says they are a must)
Regards
Keith
