Default Tough Enough Articulated Front End Loader

And so the journey begins with another "Construction Wooden Toy" .... a Tough Enough Articulated Front End Loader...

I've completed the cutting list but may redo a few pieces if the timber colours don't work together...there's telegraph poles, fence palings, Tassie oak, Australian cedar, merbau, blackheart sassafras plus other bits & pieces....[I really have too much timber but it's too precious to just through out]....

The wheel blanks we're easy but I slowed the drill press down and slowly feed the T/C holesaw into the old floor board...really could have done with a wood lathe to get the blanks looking nice but!!

The next hurdle was cutting the lugs so a jig had to be made plus a "set of dado blades" organized....

While I had an offer to borrow a set from not too far away, I wasn't comfortable with borrowing blades so purchased a 8" Freud set on Amazon....

I also bought a new table insert for my Bosch Table Saw and all up including delivery, exchange & card fees, I only paid A$170, while the cheapest in Australia was $60 dearer for a cheaper brand...

The other thing I needed to buy was another spacer for the saw arbor which had to be a Bosch part to ensure it was correct...

The next step is to overcome my hesitance to actually start cutting all the lugs in the 8 wheel blanks, so many cuts.

Must at this point say a HUGE THANK YOU to all who offered there know-how to my question on fixing the lug template to the wheel blanks.....
    ..
Anyways, on with the project...got to keep Handy and Wally happy....Cheers, crowie

Looks like it is going to be a good build. Just like me you prepare all the wood in advance saves having to keep going back and setting up machines.

I am in for the ride Peter.

Default Not a lot of progress...

Not a lot of progress over the weekend with two [2] grand finals and a garden pond to clean out...

The pond really knocked me up, moving the plants and old weed followed by scrubbing the concrete walls in ready for 2 coats of Crommelins Pond Sealer/Liner...
I hurt all over so was very happy for my hydrotherapy appointment this morning....

This afternoon is was good under the house in the shed.... very hot outside.

I got the "dado blades set" in place on the table saw and after having a play was comfortable enough to do the halving joint in the articulated base of the loader....

The next step was to round off the radius on each side on the "Bobbin Sander"....

Thankfully I'd cleaned out the Dust Collector Filter on the weekend, thanks to bits a few blokes off the forum gave me from there "ubeaut stash"....[got to love the caliber of the mob on the forum]...

"Handy" looks very pleased with our efforts while "Wally" was itching to get back to the pond....
    Cheers, crowie

Been a bit hot here today too, 35 deg. How did the new dado set perform?
Good to see some progress being made. Always so many other things to do isn't there.

Sound like you have been busy just be careful don't over do it too much. The dado blade looks like it is a great piece of kit and certainly done the job.

    G'Day Dallas & Derek,
The "dado set" worked very well....
It took a little to do and check the setup, especially making an allowance for the different size spacer on the inboard side of the blades.
So all in all, a good purchase...
    Cheers, Peter

PS - Yes I did overdo the weekend jobs and thus have paid for it...

    Default Read the instruction sheets!!

Reading the instruction sheets in a set of plans has always been a huge weak point for me!!

I prefer to work off patterns...

BUT this time I was caught out big time with the loader cabin and have had to improvise & modify....

The "dado blade set" is working well though a little extra time is required to do the setup with the table saw fence...

Over the past two afternoons I've made a radiator and done the cabin, all be it with modifications or is is it Peterbilt personalization.

Both "Handy" & I are please with the end result as it's looks okay...

"Wally's" pretty happy too, as his ponds full recoat is drying nicely; the water & plants will be returned on the weekend.

    Cheers, Peter
