    Default Toy Bus for mygrandson

    G'Day All,
My grandson came into the woodshop a couple of weeks back to see what pa was doing.
Pa was silly as he asked if pa should make something for him.
An immediate YES, a bus, a bus.
So pa found a pattern and modified it to the timber in stock; 4" x 1.5" which I laminated together.
Maked it out, bandsaw the big bits away, forsner bit through the middle, then the bobbin sander did the rest.
It had to be painted green, everything has to be green.
As per the photos, he's pretty happy with the end result.
    Cheers, Crowie

    Nice one...
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Nice piece of work Crowie. I'll bet that he'll treasure that little bus that Pa made for him.

That's pretty damn good. I might even steal that design.

    Well done!

    G'Day Charleville,
Do you want the pattern I based the bus upon?
    Cheers, Crowie

    Yes please!

If it is easy enough for you to transmit, that is. I could probably make a reasonable copy of it just by looking at the pictures but a plan is always good to have if there is one.

'Tis a damn fine job. I like the simplicity of it. I have made a few articulated toys but invariably, they come back for repairs to the axle pins because someone steps on the toy or whatever. Your bus has an elegant simplicity and with such a minimal number of components, future repairs might also be minimal.

    G'Day Charleville,
The bus plan was smallish so I just modified/adapted it to what I thought was a better size for a 4 year old.
It was a free "pdf file" plan off a website I came across.
    I use laminate 4" x 1.5" to make 4" x 3" for the main body.
Reduced the window holes to be 3 equal openings plus the front door.
Drilled 1-1/4" dia forsener bit for the window holes & shaped to make a sort of oval.
The wheels were 44mm holesaw in 12mm tassie oak lining boards & 1/4"dia tassie oak dowel for the axle.
Enjoy your toy making, the relaxation and rewards are worth it.
    Cheers, Crowie

Default Thank you for the encouragement!!

Thank you one and all for the words of encouragement.
I have struggled with the depth of ability I see on the forum with the great toys/models that I've seen made at times.
I think I might just stick with this sort of wooden toy for a while.
They are very satisfying and relaxing; no pressure or stress.
Enjoy your woodwork, enjoy making toys.
Show us what you've made and be encouraged by a great mob of blokes & ladies.
    Cheers, Crowie
