    Default Benchtop bandsaw

I have looked through the bandsaw forum trying to work out which bandsaw to get. I am posting here as I think I may get an answer and not just the usual buy a 14inch one.

I am looking to buy a Benchtop bandsaw for toy making. Generally small toys but maybe upto a rocking horse and ride on truck/tractor size.

I have only really found the ryobi 230mm one in a Benchtop size but I am keen to try and build a toy tractor like the one doc58 did which I think has a 114mm middle section. Bigger than the 80mm max in the ryobi.

I could cut it twice and laminate after which is an option as I think the 80mm would be plenty big enough for all other activities.

Does anybody have any recommendations? I have very limited size so a floor standing one is not an option.

    Thanks.

G'Day & Welcome Mark to a top forum.
I have an older Craftmaster benchtop but prefer to use the 14" Hafco I inherited from my father-in-law; it's very basic.
If I had the funds & area I'd get a more expensive one with a better fence & blade securing mechanism.
Back on subject the older Craftmaster benchtop it is also quite basic.
I'm sure someone will have a good reference for a benchtop bandsaw.
Enjoy the forum, have heaps of fun making toys.
    Cheers, crowie

    Default Bench Top Bandsaw.

    Hi Mark,
I'm not to sure about this, but I think you will find the Blade is quite different to the likes of a 14in. They are much thinner, as they have to go around a smaller wheel.
They also break a lot easier, & are very awkward to Rejoin.

I'm also going to tell you to go get a 14in..

In buying the 230mm. you are bound to want to cut a bigger piece of wood that you will not be able to cut, as it wont fit.
    There are a few 2nd. Hand B/saws 14in. around, for $275 - $300.
    Regards,
    issatree.

    Hi Mark,
I bought the smaller Sheppach (I think it is a 12"). It comes on a separate stand so could be put straight on the bench. I was looking at a decent bench one as well but ended up making room to have it on the stand. FYI - I bought from Hares and Forbes and they are having a sale starting this coming Thursday (if I have got my dates right).
    cheers
    Mick

I forgot about the Hare & Forbes 3 day sale this THURSDAY, FRIDAY & SATURDAY.

This one looks like you could use it on the bench without the stand...

What ever you do make sure that it is a 2 wheel machine and preferably with a cast table. Throw away the blade that comes with it and buy a decent one. Make sure you spend time setting it up correctly as this will give you better accuracy

Thanks I will have a look at the hares & Forbes to see if they will work on a bench. I also may look at the carba tec 10" as it looks like it may fit on a bench.

Does anybody know of a 14" that can sit on a bench?

I only have 4m of bench space and no floor space so it has to go on then bench unfortunately.

As Crowie has suggested, having a look at the picture of the BP-250, you could unbolt the blue stand from the grey base and sit it on a bench.
Too many projects, so little time, even less money!
