While the toymaking has been quiet Monster Trucks have multiplied in my shed....
I was give a number of offcuts of what looks like Cypress Pine stacker logs with a nicely curved top; beautiful, ready made truck cabins using some cypress pine floor board offcuts for the ute tray.
The engines and the ute sides are cut down Tassie Oak lining boards while the base is Grey Gum and the alxe mounts are Merbau...
I'm doing four [4] at time for this lot are fund raisers for the Boys & Girls Club towards there AirTrack.
The next part of the project is 32 wheel halves, 16 with a forstner bit recess as the outer; then the long slow process of cutting all the treads....HELP!!
I was trying to make a easy simple truck but to be strong is just as important, so time and effort are required, while shed time has been short.
Anyways ladies & gents, I hope all are enjoying some shed time making toys or cleaning up ready to make toys, Cheers, crowie

Wheel Halves - what a process....
Wheel Halves - what a process....STEP #1
I had a 1800mm length plus a whole stack of shorts in 135x20mm so made up a jig to hold the board on the drill press table setting it up for the inner's first with a 93mm T/C holesaw...
Next was the outer's with the extra step of drilling a 1.5" forstner hole in the centre of the blank before using the holesaw to cut out the disc....
The red timber which I though was either Grey gum or Spotted Gum is so hard the forstner bit is now almost blunt and it took for ever to cut the disc's.....
Cleaned them up on the bobbin sander and headed for a rest though it took me 4 goes at standing at the drill press to do this lot....
Time is short this week with too many medical appointments BUT maybe time for STEP #2 which is mark up all the wheel disc's ready for the table saw....
Cheers, crowie

Step #2 - Making out the wheel blanks
Step #2 - Making out the wheel blanks and setting up the table saw for cutting the lug treads.....15deg's at about 6.5mm wide by 4.5mm deep....
Using a cutting jig for making out is easier than coping 32 templates, gluing them onto the blanks then later removing the template and cleaning out the glue....
Make sure you set 8 inners and 8 outers aside as you need to cut half on the left and the other half on the right....
This is a slow almost laborious task but the cutting is yet to come and one must be fresh to complete that process.....
Cheers, crowie
PS - Forgot to mention one thing, the newer style T/C Holesaw Arbors have a 6.0mm pilot drill bit and my lug cutting jig has 1/4" dowel so I had the extra step of running a 7.0mm drill bit through the centre holes of all the blanks ...lots of fun....
