    Default Toymaking timber resizing/resawing??

    Toymaking timber resizing??
Thanks to a mate, I now have sourced & installed a new fence on what was my father-in-laws old bandsaw [photo attached].
I have a couple of new 6tpi & 14tpi blades, but mainly use the 14tpi for cutting toy parts as I like the finer finish. [W404A & W404B].

If, when I am to do some resawing, as I've heard other mention for their toymaking timber, is the 6tpi the correct blade or do I need to buy a 3tpi blade [W404D].
    Thank you all.
    Cheers, crowie

    Peter,

I use these 2 blades for resawing. A 3/8" 3tpi Skip tooth blade and the 1/2" version from Timberwolf. My saw only has a 3/4hp motor so I have to feed slow on anything over 3" tall.

    Hi Peter
I am not an expert.I got a bit sick of the Black cheap blades on my saws,so I decided to give this place a try Henry Bros Saws - Bandsaw blades & circular saw blades
I put in an order on what I thought I needed.Well I got a phone call from the boss.
I took his advice.Very helpfull he was.I was told about swedish,German and USA steel.
And different thickness blades as well.I have 2 bandsaws, one small one that Isit on my bench just for cutting the small stuff.I was sold what is called a Hobby blade. It isnt what you may think. It is a thin high quality blade that flexes a bit more Blade is 6.35mm(1/4") and very thin. Without looking I think it is 6tpi.runs dead true .I love it Oh and no wander like I was getting with the Chinese blades.Just at a guess it has lasted trice as long as the cheap ones.Staying sharp and not broken.
I havent used the bigger blades yet but will be shortly. Will let you know.
I was sold a selection of blades for different jobs ,from 8 tpi to a wild looking 2tpi.It looks scary to me What HP is your motor? It maynot drag a low tooth count blade through thick wood.
Prices were good as well from $18 to $25 earlier this year.
Just my experience hope it helps Like I said I am not an expert

    Thank you Bret & Ross,
The bandsaw is an old 14" HAFCO "SSW" - 140 Wood Cutting Band Saw.....
The motor is 1/2" HP - 4 Pole Motor.....
It's similar to the Hare & Forbes Model #BP-14A.
    Cheers, Peter

If I were you I would stick to the 6 tpi Blade on your saw and take it easy.
A 3 tpi blade would be hard work for 1/2hp motor. Most of the 14"saws these days have a 1 to 2 hp motor .Just my opinion
