That is looking mighty fine, Mr. Dalboy. I kinda wish I was smarter. If I knew exactly how to do it, it would be fun to take that plan, make a larger version in the form of a pedal train. My grandson is at the size to be ready for a pedal car, ah train.

You would need to make it as light as possible as they soon can become very heavy, but at the same time it needs to be strong enough to handle the knocks and bumps it will get during use.
I would make the boiler shorter and bring the cab nearer to the centre and include a place at the back for the coal bunker which could have a lid to put things in. Maybe one day when I get time I will have a go at drawing some plans as I like that idea.
Mind you this one is able to take a very small child sitting on the cab roof it would just need something for them to hold onto.

G'Day Derek, That is looking excellent.....
I had the grandsons here yesterday and showed them the earlier photos you posted; they were both very impressed and you know the request ....
"pa can you make us one" .... and pa's reply was "pa's not as clever as his friend in England" ....
Keep up the good work Derek, love it...Cheers Peter

Well the painting begins. So after today no more of the main body of the Train until after the final paint job is complete. I still have the wheels to do which will be done on the lathe.
But I have done a little painting to show you and that is the face, I have used different colours to the original Thomas as this is going to be called Toby the tank engine the name of the little boy it is for also the number will be different along with some slightly different shades in the colour department. The colours may look a bit different once I get the varnish on to it
I would like your thoughts on the face colours if you don't mind.

Love it!
I think you'd be hard pressed to improve on the face.
The colours look great and the overall effect is wonderful.
Great stuff

After raising three [3] girls, I've found it very rewarding to have grandsons and be able to use more blokey colours...while the face looks very much a face it needs something a little more masculine; a lot will depend on the colours on the train itself, too....just my thought Derek...Cheers, Peter

Having watched every Thomas movie and episode in existence I think It does look different with the flesh color face. What color is the body going to be?

Thanks guys have been a bit busy painting and also had a three days off of the train. One complete day I had a guy come over for a day to play on the lathe and show him all the basics with the tools.
Plus while the weather has been nice done some of the gardening.
Sorry for not answering any questions, the main one what colour blue am I using, well here is a sneak preview and as I have not seen Handy and his side kick from either sides of the world to me I have found a little helper who keeps snooping around( he is a little shy being the first time in front of the camera)
