English is not his first language, so I told him what the comments are. I told him he can build something else next time, which he like very much.
He is 13, so there is always a chance that he thinks it childish next time, but we'll see

Well done from me to both of you. You are a good teacher. Today I purchased the four car plans for the fifties selection. I'm wondering if I can make the car bodies using builders 38mm cutoffs that I find in their scrap bins.

    Does anyone know please?

    G'Day Buzza,
Firstly what size does the plan say, please.
Second if you have a heap of 38mm offcuts, just scale the plan to suit.
    Cheers, crowie

Or just glue them together to make up the size required

I would do as I do with most of the plans: modify them to the size of wood you have. I have purchased the plans for the 50's cars as well, they look nice!

The plans are in Imperial so they read inches, but seeing as I'm an old schooler, I have a ruler with metric and imperial. The main or largest part of the the car is the body, and it reads 1-1/2" x 3-5/16" x 9-3/8".

Other parts are 3/4" thick, 1/4" & 1/8" thick. I could use MDF for the flashings.

    G'Day Buzza,
I've found that if the plans are imperial it's best to make the parts to imperial measurement/sizes.
Personally I prefer not to use MDF but many other do.

Thanks for the tip Crowie. It looks to me like a PDF can be resized at the printer before pushing the "GO" button, but if I do that, the wheels and steering wheel that I may purchase will be out of wack. Yep, I'll stick with the Imperial.

G'Day Buzza, You can always make your own wheels & steering wheel...
If you're unsure just start a new thread and start asking questions.
