I buy my hoop pine timber from Enrights timber mill in Beaudesert QLD but thats probably not going to help you much.

Hello Cookie,

I use hard maple, walnut, cherry, red oak, mahogany and pine. All but the pine are bought in the rough at a hardwood dealer in Austin, TX. The pine you can buy at any big box Home Depot, Lowes etc. Not sure where you live in the U.S. but you should be able to buy the pine and some red oak at a big box store. There finished on all 4 sides. When you buy in the rough you have more options for what thickness you want and species. Although you will need at least a planer and bandsaw and really a jointer. So if you are just starting out and don't have all these tools or access to them I recommend the wood at the big box stores that is already finished. It comes in 3/4" thickness and if you need thicker you will have to do glue ups to get the thickness desired.

I think most of the toys n joys models you see online are built with Maple and Walnut.

You've got some good blokes from your side of the pacific helping with the local sourcing of timber.
From memory in your introduction to the forum you said you lived in Elkton, va [Virginia??] which is east coast I think.
Anyways our "canuck mate" and the "texan" are best to help you for USA suppliers.
