Default frustrated shopsmith Mk V owner

G'Day

Just joined and amazed at the number and variety of posts. Have inherited (now some time ago,) a Shopsmith which has given good service..until now. I guess like me its a bit over the hill; its got tired and needs attention. I have been trying to get a replacement speed control handle as the alloy gear has stripped and speed can no longer be adjusted. Shopsmith in the USA have informed me that it no longer ships parts outside the USA and I believe that there is no agent in Australia for this machine. Is there anyone with information as to where I might get the part?
I live in south eastern NSW and wonder if there is any repair shop in the region known to pull these machiines apart and repair them.?

Cheers Fred

Look up the threads about buying/shipping stuff from the USA.

There are a couple of places that will buy stuff for you & have it shipped to you for a fee.

Places like Shop USA & Price USA

As a fellow Shopsmith owner that is fairly poor form from Shopsmith, particularly when they haven't had an Australian distributer for some time. I would have guessed the number of Shopsmith owners seeking spares would be relatively low and it could almost be just a good will thing to deliver outside the USA.

I would try Ebay both Australia and USA. Not many pop up in Australia but there are often parts on the USA Ebay. Or do as Cliff said and look at a freight forwarder.

Before internet orders were a big thing I got some replacement parts engineered for mine but it was costly but at least they were good enough to do such a small job.

Or try:

Shop Smith, all in 1 tool, wood lathe, jig saw, sander, | eBay

Not great condition by the look of it but it should stop it going too high and will be great for your spare parts. Bit of a drive perhaps but perhaps still cheaper than trying to get your parts from the States.

Gooday Fred!

have inherited a Mark 5 and am currently looking for parts. You can purchase parts from a number of sources apart from the company.
ebay works well as does restorers in the US. have found that the video clips online at shopsmith are also very good. i have the original manuals and parts lists if you need them?
